Huh - haven't seen this on autosport or Planet-F1 yet. While not surprising, it's disappointing to see another team drop out.

Oh well - 24 instead of 26 is still more cars than this year.

If Toyota drops, Sauber is back in with their former BMW program.

THIS^

Although I do feel bad for Toyota for trying so hard, but nothing to show for it.

Toyota has been a backer of F1 for many years and it's sad to see them leave. It shows that money cant buy happiness. But, when one leaves, another enters.

Axis seems to think it isn't imminent. They say Toyota is definitely out.

Damn - adding that link to my bookmarks.

http://www.planet-f1.com/story/0,189...673100,00.html

So Sauber gets to jump the other teams that were in line for grid spots? Will Theissen be going with them?

I kind of thought they may be an engine supplier, but that's been shot down too. Lotus (new F1 team) and Toyota have a good relationship as Toyota supplies the engines for the Elise, Exige and new Evora. Guess not!

And another one bites the dust.

Ironic that with cost-cutting measures in force, they still leave.

Mosley failed hard. This guy is the biggest idiot the world has ever seen. Actually, no. It's a tie with Ecclestone.

Even more ironice that they're leaving now, because it seems they'd rather spend half a billion than 100 million$.

Oh well. The world turns. Soon it will come full circle and we'll be back to the F1 of the olden days, where craftsmen and smaller teams will team up with an engine supplier and rule the sport.

That is a big part of the reason teams have trouble. If he teams have to develop an entirely new car every year to meet the new "cost-cutting" rules, then costs go through the roof. The contradictions within F1 border on the ludicrous. BMW and Toyota were smart to leave. I'm a big fan of F1, but if I were a manufacturer you'd have a hard time convincing me that I should run a team in F1.

Indeed. Mosley pushed for KERS, then introduced cost-cutting measures, then ditched KERS because hey, it's too expensive. Of coufrse, teams who spent a fortune developing it are pissed.

I believe we are getting there now. Brawn and Red Bull are 1-2 constructors, and a few more manufacturers are leaving, while a few more independent teams are entering. Toyota leaving isn't good, same for BMW, but it wasn't like one of the core teams (Ferrari, Williams, McLaren) left.

Ferrari and Renault are the only manufacturer teams left (or am I missing somebody). Everyone else is a chassis builder or engine supplier, but not both.

Damn this is really to bad, i was looking forward to see Kobayashi run in the next races, the kid is damn good and if he continues, might be one of the best in the sport. Hopefully Mclaren ends negotiations with Kimi and picks this kid up. Anyway F1 as a whole has just gone down hill and the manufactures see that, racing next year is going to be horrible.

Or incredible. With a lot of newcomers, no dominant team, a deep driver talent pool, it will be either a complete snore fest or one of the best seasons since...er...the late 80's (?).

I'd say farewell and take care. You won't be missed. Just like nature, the weakest of the pride dies and in a way ensures its longevity and survival. I will not miss you when i go to Montreal in June.

Mercedes has a stake in McLaren, so they're viewed as a manufacturer, although strictly speaking there's no «Mercedes» team.

We should start a team.

BFC OT F1, using old ass M50B25 engines.

Wasn't it the teams' association that decided that no one would use KERs? I think they will technically still be legal next season, there's just an agreement not to use them.

I wouldnt let the ax down yet, remember that Toyota signed the Concorde Agreement binding them to the championship until 2011-2012. It might be more expensive to leave F1 then to see out the rest of the agreement?

Toyota and Honda can leave for all I care, the most fruitless efforts in F1 in recent history. How much money between the 2 in the past 10 years and NO championship?
