The license plate light...

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum.

I just got my first BMW, and it is a 2006 325i.
It has Xenon headlight on it, but the license plate light is Halogen. It seems a little bit ugly. So I want to buy a LED license plate light for my 325.
But I don't really know which brand or how I can buy a good light for it. There are many different sellers on Ebay, but I don't know if they can be trusted. And I am afraid that after I installed the new license plate light, the error code will come up.

Can anyone who bought a LED license plate light for your BMW give me some idea about buying the LED license plate light?? Thank you!!

i believe there is a vendor on this site who sells BMW parts and i think LED license plate lights are one of them. I am sure he/she will respond to the post.

But i agree with you about the light, at first i thought it was dumb to get an LED license plate light, i was a believe in "hiding" visibility of the license plate till i saw an M5 with an LED license plate light and it looked great

Just have a look at them. They either screw out or pop out with a flat head screwdriver. Dead easy.
When you put the LED light into where the original bulb is and it doesnt work, flip it around. LEDs have a + and -.
There are some LEDs on eBay that claim not to throw codes on the OBC. I bought some recently and will report on if they do throw codes or not.

It does freshen up the look of your car at night. People that think they are hiding their numberplates with the stock globes are idiots. If a car is behind you at night with headlights on they can see it clear without them anyway.

I have just replaced all the interior lights in my E38 with white LEDs. Looks very cool .

Thanks for your reply. But I don't really understand "When you put the LED light into where the original bulb is and it doesnt work, flip it around. LEDs have a + and -." Do I just pop out the original light, and plug-in the new LED light, then it will be fine???
I checked out Ebay, all of them say their product will not come up with error code, but some friends bought them, and they still come up with error code. That's why I don't know whether the product on Ebay can be trusted or not.
The interior light, for myself, I prefer to the original one because it's too bright if I use LED. It is kind of uncomfortable for myself...

Basically they are the same as the old bulbs just with LEDs in them. You put them in exactly how the old bulbs are.

However, before you close up make sure that the LEDs actually turn on. If they do not, they are not broken, you just need to flip them around.
They are like a battery that has a positive (+) and a negative (-) if you put them the wrong way around they will not work, will they?

E32 I will take a picture tonight so I can show you the full effect. It does look very cool and because they are behind clear smokey lenses they are not blinding and spread light fairly well.

Not really; you have to remember, for the license plate bulb at least, you'll only be looking at the festoon varieties. Next, narrow it down to the particular length you need, and from there all you have to decide are two things:

1. What color? and,
2. Regular, or High-Power?

I have the regular ones in my entire car(all white), as well as the license plate. I believe I have the ones with 6 LED's in them for the LP, and they look great. Also, the regular ones are pretty bright--enough to be both very noticeably-aftermarket, yet subtle at the same time, and I would think the high-power ones would be way overkill IMO.

Also, I just tried to take a vid of what they all look like, but the faildogs were barking all over the place. My shitty camera just doesn't perform well in really dark scenes, and if you turn the garage lights on, it takes away too much from the LED's. That's not to say they don't put off any light, because they definitely do. You just have to see it in person to really appreciate it. It does have a little bit of a "sterile" feeling compared to the stock halogens, but I actually kinda dig that...

Also, I really like the all-white look, especially since I have the white angelibrights in my AE's... gives it a lighting "consistency" throughout the car: starting with the AE's, then the interior cabin and puddle lights, then the interior trunk lights, and finally the LP lights... Everything matches. *insert Borat "nice... VERY niiiice!"*

Anyway, hope this info helps.

Cheers,
~m.

It's great having LEDs in the boot/trunk at night. Where you really need them the most.

Sorry I didn't bring my camera to work tonight. I'll try and take some pictures of the interior when I get home today. Sorry for the delay.

Not sure if you've found these or not, but we carry the Ziza LED license plate bulbs for the E46! What makes ours stand out from the rest is these will not throw a bulb out code. These lights are direct replacement bulbs that install in minutes, there is no need to wire up fancy resistors (ours are built in) or hack your factory wiring to get these to work.

Simply remove your plate light assembly, replace the factory incandescent bulb with our Ziza bulb, and re-install the plate light assembly. When installing bulbs, be sure to place the end with the large heat sink pointing upwards, this makes sure the brightest part of the LED will be shining down on your license plate.

You can find the ones for your specific application here:

If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM!

Cheers,

The LED's from superbrightleds.com have the same technology, but at 1/10th the cost.
