FS: 1988 535is 5 Speed Alpine over Cardinal

    For Sale
    535is
    176,000 Miles
    Alpine White over Cardinal

    The Good:
    Pulls strong
    Paint is nice
    Brakes and tracks straight
Decent amount of preventative maint while under my ownership
    No rust around fenders
MSW wheels, 15x7 inch baskets, gold with with polished lips.
All Shifter Components replaced, Including both cups, all shims, and the selector rod. Shifts like New!
Front Left Caliper was remanufactered, and rotors and pads were all replaced recently.

    The Bad:
Radio was stolen, I don't listen to it so it never bothered me
No AC, I don't use it so I've never looked into why
Missing the trim piece that hangs between feet and steering column. Came loose during a trip causing it to interfere with my clutch work. Removed it and have since misplaced it.
No foglights. Not sure what happened to them? Not there when I bought the car.
Tear along seam of driver side seat, about 3 inch long maybe, not that awful.

Polished lips are no longer polished. Will need to be redone.

I love this car very much, and the color scheme of White on Red with gold weaves meant I had to have it. She has served me well over the past two years. I purchased the car from a gentleman that lives near by that owned an Alpina e21 (b2.8 maybe?), Alpina e12 (also b 2.8?, not sure but high compression motor, dog leg tranny, very nice) and two pristine 2002s. I like to think that under both his and my ownership that car has been lovingly maintained by enthusiasts.

    Reason for sale:
I can't drive two cars at once, so paying insurance for one to sit doesn't make sense anymore. I want to sell both to get into a plastic bumpered e30 325i, but I will likely just keep the car that doesn't sell first. Considering how many replies I've received from my craigslist ad, it will likely be the e28 that goes first.

Asking: $2600 OBO, and that really means or best offer, so feel free once I get photos up to send your best offer and if I feel it is too low at the time I will politely tell you so.

    Pictures should be up tomorrow.
    Thanks,
    James

Looks like a very clean car for a very reasonable price. I might be interested.

Is that a dent above the passenger side rocker on the front door?

Yessir thats a dent on the arch. I was thinking one of the fender rollers would be able to massage it into place. I tried to put info at the bottom of the pictures to give details.

I think its a reasonable price, and it can be even more reasonable if someone actually comes and buys it.

Here the link to my convertible. Its also pretty darn clean with a very reasonable price.

Don't think I mention this above but I'm open to trades.

Looking for a solid e34, either 535iM or 525iM, or two door e30. Would be willing to do a trade+cash for a Red, Calypso or Oxford 525i Manual with tan or black interior.

Email me any offers. I may entertain non-BMW trades as well, as long as its something fun. Prefer manual/RWD unless its stupid fast or luxury oriented.

Car is all fixed up, has brand new tires, and will have all emissions/inspections by the end of the week. It should also have new PA registration. Feel free to send me any offer. I am very close to giving it away to a friend of the family just to get it off of my insurance.

Wow, how did this end up here? I guess maybe they moved it from the For Sale section to get more views??

DasPirate: Yep, I got your email, and right now your second in line. Would you be flying out?? I'd be happy accommodate. There is one other gentleman who is coming to see the car soon, and I'l let you know how it goes.

EDIT: Nevermind, this is the For Sale section, lol. I thought it had been moved to the e28 section....

Car drives great. I forgot how nice it is to drive. Engine is still very strong. Shifts smoothly, as nearly every part of the shift linkage assembly was replaced.

I also had one of the calipers remanufactured. I found where I had put the maintenance records so I will post that info up in a little bit.

Here is some of the maintenance history:

1991-1993: I have various receipts from DeSimone BMW in Marlton NJ. I also have the original service booklet

I have records for some of the work done by the previous owner, some items including brake replacements in 2004, and various alignments, oil changes etc. Some of the work was done at Woodlawn Foreign Car Service.

I purchased the car in Sept 2006.

    Sept 2007:
Work done by Bob Fox in Ambler PA. He normally does Porsches and Porsche race cars, but also does MB and BMWs. Really know his stuff.

    -Replaced Clutch Master Cylinder
    -Replaced Clutch Slave Cylinder
    -Replaced Clutch Pressure Hose
    -Replace Brake Fluid
-Replace Both front Brakes with New Rotors
-Replace both Rear Brakes with New Rotors
-Replace all Pads with New Brake Pads
-Replace all fluids, oil change +filter

    Nov. 2008:
Work completed at B&W Auto, a place where I've brought all of my families' BMWs.

    -Replace Selector Rod
-Replace Shift assembly (New O-Rings, Shims, Dust Boot, Shifter Support, Upper and Lower Cups)
-Remanufactered Front Left Caliper, Replace Brake Fluid.
    -New tires, Kuhmo KH16
    -Emissions+Inspection

Between these two bills, that is $2500+ in Maint in the last 13 months. I'm sure it would be a fair amount more when you add in small items that I replaced myself like coolant+PS hoses and the throttle cable, etc. No cost has been spared to insure that this car drives perfectly. It has also been super reliable over the course of my ownership.

This list does not include various oil changes, etc. I have some records from various places for those, along with bills for tires and batteries, etc.

I also have all, if not most, of the emissions reports from the past 5 years. Not sure what help that is, but I have them if they are of any interest.

    General History:

I've owned the car since Sept 2006.

Before that it was owned by another BMW enthusiast, who owns an e30 m3, an Alpina e12 and Alpina e21. He bought the car in 2003

Before that the car was in NJ, but I am not sure if the owner was the original. I have the original lease papers from BMW, and the sale records from the transfer to the previous owner and the one between him and myself. He paid $6,500 in 2003.

$2600 now I believe. Just someone needs to come and drive it home. Put enough cash in front of me and I'd be happy deal.

Schweet. This is just what I'm looking for, but I'm in the same situation as you. I need to sell my jeep first, unless you want to trade + cash

Bumpity, wonderful car here. Plenty of fun in the snow, and would be pretty darn good with some Blizzaks

bump for those that haven't seen this car. I just recently clay barred and waxed the car and she looks so great now. I'm going to go out and get some good pictures this week ti show how much better it looks than in the photos posted above (they make it look like I have it parked in a junkyard and do no justice to the condition of my baby).

Also, the car has a new starter and solenoid, a Bosch unit with a warranty.

New Pictures this weekend, the skies are clearing, batteries charged, and car nice and clean (damn trees keep dropping sap +pedals/leaves onto my baby if I park in the driveway).

If your interested, keep an eye for upcoming pictures that will really show how this baby looks (other pictures= crap taken by me in my driveway, New Pictures= Pro photog hopefully nice setting.)

Seems like you have hard time selling your cars. I am not ready to buy yet, but atleast I can do a bump for a good deal.
