Z3 (E36/7, E36/8) (1996 - 2002) In 1996 BMW added the Z3 to the lineup. First available only with the 1.9 liter engine, the Z3 went on to carry every 6 cylinder produced between 1996 and 2002. A fun, sporty little 2 seater came both in convertible and coupe form. Being a bit of a “parts bin” car, the Z3 is part E30, part E36, but all original.

Please help me. My beloved M coupe was possibly totalled yesterday

Idiot woman made a u-turn from the right lane across the left lane where I was and across the double yellow. This was on a 50mph road.

I tried to avoid her but she didn't see even see me and just kept coming. I hit her full force with my right front. The damage is pretty extensive, I believe the frame is probably bent along with a lot of front end damage.

I need cheering up bad. Like most of you, I took very good care of this car. I don't believe it will ever be the same. It was truly in showroom condition, actually better.

I had just under 1k miles on my brand new TC Kline True Match suspension, BBS RS-GT wheels and Autosolutions short shifter.

I am seriously considering not buying a car like this again. There were only around 2,180 of these made. They are collector cars. I put my heart and soul into this car only to be disappointed like this.

I am numb.

Sorry to hear that man. Awful luck considering you just completed some nice mods. Good luck getting it all back together or at least getting a fair settlement.

Hang in there, get full money (replacement value) for your car and accept nothing less. It took me 7 months of patience to work with my insurance company on my 94 rx7. I had about 40K into it including the purchase price of 18K. It took them a long time to figure out that my car had a market value of $33,000. I took a bit of a loss, but it was about the same as if I had to find a buyer in a week or less. I loss it in a shop fire.

Now, on both my 510, and the coupe I use hagarty. I carry a $60K policy on it and $25K on the 510. To insure both is only $125 per month.

I am so glad you didn't get hurt. These cars are replaceable, our health isn't.

My advice for everyone out there is to get stated value policy for your cars. Its not expensive and it completely eases the mind when you want to drive them and not have to worry about the idiots out there.

BE PATIENT, HOLD OUT FOR MARKET VALUE, AND START SHOPPING FOR YOUR NEXT COUPE!!!!!!

I would be very hard to get more sheer joy out of a car than I did from her. I just told my Wife two days ago that wherever I went, it was usually the most beautiful there.

The other car was a late model beetle. For whatever reason, there didn't seem to be as much damage to it. At least she admitted what she did and was apologetic. Her passenger however made things worse by arguing with me. He accused me of being "rude" because I got out of my car and angrily asked if she a License and insurance.

I had just washed my car and even damaged sitting there any idiot could see why I would be upset. He didn't have any reason to argue with me. No one expects a car to go across lanes and a double yellow to make a u-turn.

This guy was a big enough jerk that he was threatening to sue me if he was hurt. I did my best to ignore him.

I asked my insurance company a few times how rare cars are handled when this happens and they assured me I would get replacement value.

I posted this then read your post jonesmechanical. I'll edit mine here to thank you for the uplift.

Every time I asked State Farm about this they assured me I would get replacement value, not market, which for these and most enthusiast cars is not realistic.

I'm not sure how it works in this case because it was totally the other driver's fault and she does have insurance.

I noticed in Roundel there were two for sale last month. The value stayed steady the last 3 years but they just recently dropped by 5k.

My Wife says she's just happy I wasn't hurt.

Maybe not physically, but I'm very sad.

My car ended up in the middle of the road with the front tire jammed up against the bent wheel well. The state trooper asked me to move it to the side and I told him it would have to be flatbedded. He said If I didn't move it he would push it.

To hear that sound of grinding and rubber knashing when moments before it was purring was nasty to a car lover.

Raggadiman, I can't help you have an appreciation for these cars and there is literally nothing you could write that would diminish mine.

How's this for being a man. I would choose the sadness I have right now over a lack of passion for a beautiful machine.

Besides, who else would understand more than Bimmerheads?

I don't plan on dwelling on it at length, but at least allow me to acknowledge the loss.

for all you guys tellin him to get over it etc...put yourself in his shoes
he worked it up to be a beautiful car...when you work up a car you become emotionally attached to it...dont judge him for being upset

I've had many classic and collectible cars over the years. They come and go. It may anger me ,but it doesn't hurt my feelings..When one is lost its passing provides opportunities for another project to begin. You should only get "emotionally attached" to loved ones. Not machines.

All I've heard from the owner is "poor me and my car"and "this idiot woman". I haven't heard anything like, "Thankfully no one was hurt or killed."

I remember how much it sucked when my brothers BMW was totaled, years ago. It wasn't even my car, and it was a well-worn '74 2002. I can imagine you're pretty upset.

Let us know how things turn out with insurance? And what you decide to do automobile-wise.

Cheers.

It's a rare writer who can convey every thought. A forum is typically a place where your thoughts are distilled. So, like most I distilled mine.

I happen to get a lot out of life. I enjoy a lot of things great and small and all the details.

For those of you criticizing me for not including all of my thoughts, would you really post any different if I added, "I'm grateful to be alive"?

I don't expect everyone to be as passionate about a "machine", but what's the point of criticizing someone who is?

I'm just as passionate about my audio gear.

We all use different terminology. What word would you use to describe a driver turning left from the right hand lane, across the left lane to make a u-turn across the double yellow?

I think "idiot" is putting mildly.

For the minority of negative posters I'd bet the my whole car your hypocrites. According to you if a driver made a stupid and potentially lethal move like this to you, your response would be, "No big deal, who cares?"

Sorry, I'm not that naive and I don't believe it for a second. What fun do you gain from forum like this where people come because they love cars?

To the others who have at least understood what loosing an awesome car like this means. Thank you.

Actually, I thought of a better way to put it. I'll talk about how grateful I am to be alive and well in church. This is a car forum and I'll talk about how much I love cars. When you stop and think about it, which, clearly you didn't for very long, don't you think that someone who loves a car this much also loves life? I mean come on.

Think about the first baseball glove that you had for 8 years as a kid; wouldn't you be sad if you lost it in a fire or something? Or how about your favorite guitar? Your first baseball glove is perfectly worn in and strung the way you like it. Your guitar has wear marks that give it character. A car is just the same. When you work on a car and make changes to it, it makes it individual. If you really do love cars, which you should since this is a car forum, then you would understand the type of "connection" that one can have with one's car.

I dunno, seams like the old joke about m3s and hair gel is bleeding over into the z3 crowd.

No doubt, loosing a car in an accident sucks.

Though the first reaction of the OP was about the car, not that there where no injuries. Then the humanization (or whatever psychologists call it) of a inanimate object into a "person", then sexualizing the car by calling by a feminine pronoun is pretty creepy.

To most people that go over the top about things, the best advice is to get over it.

I would be pretty heartbroken if my car was totaled by some idiot making a u-turn too. Once you realize you are fine after an accident you rarely recount how lucky you were, since you never expected to get hurt in your car in the first place. I understand your grief OP--these are not easy cars to replace.

Chill out. Not everyone responds to things like you do and you need to respect that. He wasn't asking for a lecture just some fellow members thoughts and sympathies. That does not make him less of a man because he is sad about his car, nor does it require you to come in his thread and lecture him about how he should react to a situation.

OP, Hang in there bro and there will be another car that comes along that you will love just as much.

About 2 years ago I crashed my 95 M3 that I loved so much and it was my own fault. I drove my jeep for a while and than found the M Coupe that I have now and everything has worked out fine. Keep your chin up and things will work out.

Hey, at least you survived right!?

Screw these guys, people heal, cars don't.

I feel your pain.

This is a car that he was passionate about, he poured a lot of his time, thoughts, and money into it. It is a loss.

I am sure if "the idiot" was hurt, he would have mentioned that instead of just "ooh my poor car".

Luckily "the idiot" as well as BLS is fine and he has the luxury to be able to vent.

Who better to vent too then us, the ones who are also passionate about this car (which by the way just increased in rarity)

I think she is an idiot too. I am sorry about your car, and I am sorry about the people who attacked you here.
