Full Write Up, 1966 Pontiac Lemans Show Car, Fully Sanded and Polished

I rarely ever post up and brag about my own work, but I thought this was worth reading. check it out.

This is a very lengthy, thorough and detailed write up of the exact process, steps and techniques I performed on a 66 Lemans that was fully color sanded and polished out to perfection.

If anyone is curious what it takes to paint and perfect a car, this is what you want to read.

Lots of information for the DIY's as well as the pro's.

Please understand why I posted a link and did not rewrite the entire documentation as it took me over 5 hours just to do the write up.

Thanks and enjoy,
Josh

Thank you all very much for the kind words, I don't post up too much to show off my own work, but I thought this might be a useful thread for the DIY guys as well as part time pro detailers.

I know how much I learn from reading threads so I thought I'd contribute a bit myself.

Thanks again for the compliments.

Please ask any and all questions, if there's anything I can help answer I will.

Josh

Thanks,

Definately a lot of patience involved, it took me two days to even get the car nearly half way done.....

After 4 days of working I was happy to see the finished product.

I explained it quite a bit in the thread, if you'll see the way I described working in the polish on higher rpms, then once worked in properly I turn the speed down to a low setting and finish working it in a bit longer. So the polish cuts finer as I work it in and then even finer again once it's been "jeweled" on the lower speed.

Does that make sense?
Josh

Thanks, doing this for a living means I breath in alot of that powter and dusk and lets just say after detailing a few Dr.'s cars and talking with them about this stuff I've learned it can be very hazardous to my life with long term exposure. Basically it's about equal to breathing in glass..... No joke.

FANTASTIC WRITE-UP JOSH! The workmanship is First Class! I recently finished a black BMW 530i that I wetsanded everything except the roof so I know what that's like.

The 2 biggest helpers I have are: The Snap-On lift and an air powered orbital sander. I used 2000 and 2500 grit by hand and foam block, then finished the surface with 3M Trizact 3000 on the orbital. Big, big, big difference for prepping the surface for compounding. I ended up using 3M Perfect-It 3000 compound with wool, followed by 3M Dark Glaze, then Ultrafina SE.

I've got to hand it to you: That Poncho looks fantastic.

Toto
