For my money I'd still take the Vette and Viper.

Well, the Z06 and the Viper are both faster and handle better than the M5/M6.

I don't see what your point is? It's not like the M5/M6 are pure sports cars. They are sporty GT cars based off of a chassis found in far more pedestrian versions.

Yes, because a 528i-550i or 650i are so "pedestrian."

They certainly are.

No one can say with a straight face that an M5 or M6 handles like a true sports car.

EDIT: I found a video for you. It's from Best Motoring. The cars included are The M5, a Gallardo (w/wheels 365 rears, 335 fronts, 19inch, don't look stock), an M3CSL, a 997 Carrera S, and an R34 Skyline GT-R Z-tune.
Here are the times from the time attack. They were done on the SUGO circuit which happens to have a massive straight and fast sweepers that would favor the power and large size of the M5.

Time attack results (not best times from the race laps, best time from when each car ran the course alone):

Gallardo: 1:37.53
R34 Skyline: 1:37.55
M3 CSL: 1:39.93
911: 1:40.29
M5: 1:41.88

The M5 is last by a decent amount. With its "sports car" like suspension setup and superior power over the CSL and 911 it should have at least been even with them if not ahead of them. Cars with comparable power, such as the Gallardo and the Skyline were far ahead. In fact, it seemed like both were faster on the straight too if you look at the last few minutes of the video.

This is off-topic, as most threads on here usually go, but I figured that someone might find this interesting.

To bring it back on topic, here is an old school Best Motoring video of the VR-4 Galant:

http://video.google.com/videosearch?...4&sitesearch=#

I think it's pretty cool.

LMAO!! Why are you guys here if you have such a dislike for BMW's? I'll take a M5 or M6 over a Vette or Viper anyday!! Who cares if it's not the fastest car, for that I would get a Porsche.

But you said "see ya" like they were the fastest. Nobody dislikes BMW. Car people just dislike confusion and the nut-swingers that feed off the ambiguity that comes with it.

The only thing to dislike was the fact you cant even comprehend just how fast Z06s and Vipers are and said SEE YA with a slower set of cars

Its like someone saying a Cayman S is a quicker car and you post

PSSSHH Miata son! See ya!

Youd be looked at rather oddly seeing as how you named a SLOWER car

With your M5 and M6 examples they are slower and handle at a much lower level

Learn a few things and youll understand

I just dislike brand whores who continue to bring this rapidly deteriorating thread further off topic.

Comment on the VR-4 vs. the 335.

To sum up the off topic stuff. Everyone here likes BMWs. However, most BMWs are not true sport cars and therefore, are not the ideal car for pure driving. This does not mean they are not excellent cars--they are. The combination of luxury and performance they bring is hard to find.

Back on topic now--Do you guys want me to post any more kills on here? As soon as I get enough posts I'll try to get some videos for your enjoyment.

Here is a quote that might shed some light. This is from the forum rules parked at the top of the Kill Section.

Quote:
How one handles criticism is just as important as how one presents a point of contention or debate. Keep it civil, keep in clean, and remember we're all car enthusiasts here, so respect one another and have fun posting.
Car enthusiasts, not just BMW enthusiasts. Just becasue this is a BMW forum doesn't mean you can't be interested in or admire other cars.

Yes, please do. If you find time, maybe you can post some videos of your car up in the thread (provided it stays open).

You shouldn't feel a need to 'defend' anything..no one here is 'attacking' your BMW. I realize a true fanboi will defend his position against any negatives that come there way but there is a time and place for the rest of you guys.

I won't argue they are some of the best cars made or that the quality is above the rest... I won't argue there performance.... unless someone comes in here blowing smoke up my you know what... then it's on.

Just an update tonight I got my bored/resealed throttle body on and finished up my HKS cam(s) install. It was fast before, but now its a whole nother animal. The difference is incredible. The powerband comes on earlier, stays up to redline, and the boost hits much harder. Now to find some more cars to fry so I can update this thread.

Yes sir cams make all the difference in the world! I'm running some HKS 264in/272ex myself. Now go get yourself a 100 octane tune and chase down some exotics. You'll thank me later.

No 100 octane tune for me. When I put the engine back together I forgot to used ARP headstuds. No high boost settings for me, just pump gas 20psi.

They are expensive grocery-getters with big engines... aka not sports cars like the Z06 and Viper. Why are you trying to compare luxury sedans to pure sports cars? Does your fanboy love run that deep?

5 and 6 series are great luxury sedans, but they are terrible "sports cars"... if you want to call them that.

Ah OK. My pump tune is about 23psi and my 100 octane tune is about 26psi but I wouldn't push those levels without aftermarket headstuds.

You drive a 93' 325is. Look at yourself, then look at everyone else... see any difference?

CLUE: We drive sports cars. You drive one old car. You didn't even buy an e30, maybe we'd have some respect for you if you knew something about the BMWs you claim to love.
