M30 engine, pic of distributor cap, please

Okay, I had a BMW distributor cap on there, all nicely numbered with wire #'s. That cap and rotor is completely worn out. When I replaced with aftermarket those numbers are no longer on the distributor cap. I know the cylinder firing sequence but the engine runs incredibly rough when I hooked it up in that fashion. Can someone send me a pic or help me out with numbering?

No picture but "from the bentley"

Spark plug wires must be installed such that firing is
1-5-3-6-2-4 where 1 is at the front of the engine and the rotor turns clockwise when viewed from the front.

    ***EDIT*** Found it

Right-o, I know the firing order. But which connection on the distributor cap is 1? It's not the lowest (or "first"). I guess there's only 6 possibilities, eh? I guess I'm a little worried I'm hurting something but the worst case is setting off a check engine light and it not starting (?)...

It has to be something else, since Bremi has the numbers on their caps ... at least mine did when I replaced it last November.

I'm embarrassed to say... Airtex. I know, I know. $20 will probably be my downfall.
