    Kicker Sub in Stock Enclosure

Update: This is an old thread and it appears this sub is discontinued. The newer version is the Kicker CompRT 6.75. Also another member mentioned that it may be easier to use a heat gun make the box a tad deeper...Heat it up the area and then push it out.

I was considering getting Beyma Power W6 sub but its depth seemed a tad too deep. The kicker CVT65 didn't require as much depth but the overall diameter was too wide for our enclosure. I grinded the edge of the speaker to make it fit. I also remove the cosmetic rubber piece that goes around the magnet for extra clearence.

    Kicker CVT65
    Peak watt 300
    RMS 150
    Frequency 25-350 Hz

The bulges on the enclosure get in the way.

I grinded out the plastic then went into metal little bit

My dremel broke so I used a knife to remove some of the plastic for extra clearance. I did this before I realized that you could remove the rubber base around the sub magnet. You might not need to cut as much if you just remove the rubber base.

I connected the sub to the stock amp and it provided a nice deep bass. Eventually it will be powered by an alpine getting 200w. I'm not sure when I'll get around to installing this but in the meantime I'll continue testing it out using the stock amp. I'll keep you posted when I get the new amp in.

With the JL 6W0s getting scarce, the Kickers may be a good substitute for the Coupe's sub box. And looks like a spacer won't be needed.

What was your stock sub? Was it an H-K? My 97 has the generic (Nokia?) sub and I haven't gotten around to taking it apart to see how it differs from the H-K enclosure

97... you might have the dual 4" subs (if one can call 4" a sub)

Nice job on the sub Z-Thrizzle. Let us know how that sounds with the PDX once you get it installed.

If you have the stock Nokia then it's not even a dual 4". It's basically a 4" speaker playing into a bandpass enclosure. There's basically nothing you can do with the stock enclosure. If you can find the HK enclosure and mounts somewhere it will fit, however.

    Nice set of pictures, thanks!
Where does your rear woofer/sub mount? Mine is different.
Could you snap a picture of the final mounted enclosure?
What are the ohms and the diameter?
Where did you get it and how much?

Not sure about the depth of the coup box but you should be good. The mounting depth is 2-13/16".

It mounts in the same place as yours but the woofer faces the front of the car. I'll take some pics this weekend
The sub is available in 4ohms or 8ohms
I got the sub from sonicelectronix.com for $100 (I purchases my other stereo components from them and they were really helpful)

Yeah, I really can wait to get that installed. I'm planning to install the amp where the CD changer mounts to. I just picked up these mounts for the cd changer. I'm going to go to HD and see if I can fab something to connect to these mounts.

The sub is a SVC and I connected it only using the red and black wires. The other two wires for DVC is tucked and tapped away in the sub enclosure.

I have maintenance issues to deal so I haven't had the time to run new wires and install the amp. I hope to get to it soon because the sub is not that loud being run off the stock amp.

With the Coupe, what you should be worried about is supplies of Dom's 10" box getting scarce.

Coincidentally, I bought one from Dom yesterday. That was my main concern for my immediate purchase.

I am assuming that the sub you purchased is a 4ohm sub. Since you are only using 2 of the wires, what is the load rating for the stock amp?

Nice job and thanks for sharing. My sub is "toast"; when I crank up the base it smells like an electrical fire was started inside the car...

I just got a video camera so I'll try and take some footage of the sub. I'm not sure of the quality of the camcorder's mic, but I think it'll give you guys a good idea of the bass this thing produces.

I found a replacement that maintains most of the stock look for roadster sound. com. This is the same unit bavarian sound sells at their site but a little cheaper.its still kinda high but has good reviews

    From your link provided ("roadstersound.com")

This one is discontinued and was ridiculously priced and the price shown is for the enclosure only.

The Kicker 65 still wins out

I know the price is insane but its the only pro manufactured enclosure i have found anywhere.my z3 has the h/k sub w/ 2 speakers & I'm not sure a 6.5 in. will fit.I wish you could get just the lid & make the rest myself.I have seen a home made lid out of mdf online somewhere.
