Hi all -
I'm trying to gauge interest to see if we could get a discounted price on the SmarTire tire pressure monitoring systems. I want to get a couple of sets for my cars.
Here is more information about SmarTire
http://www.smartire.com/products/index.html
The best price for the kit with the remote display is $249
Here is a great writeup on bmwdiy.info
http://www.bmwdiy.info/smartire/index.html
I'd definitly be interested, but only if I can find a detailed DIY for my e36.
Well i think the only part you need a DIY for is the remote monitor placement & wiring. And I think the wiring is just finding a power source when the ignition is on and a ground. Other than that, mounting can be done a number of ways...
Here are the mounting options -

Preliminary feedback is at least 6 people to start getting a discount. I'm waiting to hear how much of a discount that will work out to. I should know more tomorrow.
hey this sounds interesting id want one depending how much it comes out to tho
Ok, no major update, but I did get in touch with some guys at SmarTire. They won't sell it to us directly, but he is setting up a group discount with a distributor to pass the savings on. I should hear back tomorrow.
All right, I have information...
So, if we get 5 or more people, we can get the second generation system with a remote mounted display for $189 plus $10 insured shipping anywhere in US (UPS Ground).
Here is the full price / option breakdown I received...
$189 - Reg Price $249 - Part #80.6004 Passenger car system with remote mounted Full Function Display. - With Strap Mounted Sensors (should be fine for most tires, except for extremely low profiles)
Options (Prices are in addition to kit cost)
- $60 - Valve Stem Mounted Sensors - For lower profile tires, supposed to be less prone to breakage by tire shops.
- $150 - Round Gauge with Chrome Bezel - For ultra sleek mounting in a Gauge Pod - includes remote mount buttons - see Pic 4 below
Pic 1 - Remote Mounted Display in E39 Ashtray (Vietsb - bmwdiy.info)
Pic 2 - Another Remote Mounted Display
Pic 3 - Strap mounts with basic monitor (not what we are getting, just an example of strap mounts)
Pic 4 -Optional Round Gauge w/ button pod - example mounting
Oh, if enough people are in one place, they will ship 5 or more systems to one location and waive the shipping fees.
Thats a pretty good discount.
1. jnusser - (2 sets)
2. ken21 - (1 set)
3. djpromo328is (1 set)
4. QuestM3/4 (1 set)

hey sweet was wondering if this company accepts credit card payment or just paypal?
Yep, I believe they prefer credit cards... They're a mail-order and brick and mortar business in Oregon. They work mostly with RVs and Motorhomes, but agreed to do this for us.
what mean extream low profile tire ?? does 35 and 30 means low profile ??
and are the strap mount sensor same as this $60 - Valve Stem Mounted Sensors - For lower profile tires, supposed to be less prone to breakage by tire shops.

The strap mounted transmitters attach to the wheel by means of a long worm gear clamp, similar to the clamps used on your radiator hoses. The strap wraps around the wheel at its narrowest section, but the transmitter is still prone to breakage when a shop dismounts the tire. Each time I had to get a flat repaired, the transmitter wound up breaking off because the bead of the tire wouldn't clear it.
Note, however, that not all tires will break the strap-mounted transmitters off when the tire is dismounted. The likelihood of breakage varies by tire size, wheel profile, sidewall height, and sidewall stiffness. It didn't help that I had Bridgestone S-03s, which have very stiff sidewalls.
As their name suggests, the valve stem mounted transmitters attach where the valve stem goes through the wheel.

Ok, I ordered through Paul last night and everything went great!
I've got 2 sets coming early next week
How do we go about ordering, I am interested in buying this for my car. Thanks
The contact I've been working with is Paul Kentigh at Dickman Tires - 1-800-257-8430 or 541-998-3319, ask for Paul. Just mention that you are with the BMW group (didn't reference bimmerforums specifically in case we need to include more people). He will take care of you.
Feel free to reference my name as well. (Jeremy Nusser)
