I tried the procedure last week, Once I installed it, I had 85% of the pixels the next day it dropped to about 60%. the 3M tape eventually compresses and much of the added force on the connector is lost. Has anybody tried installing a new ribbon? what glue do they use, does it provide better results?
Thanks for the write up! It was easy to follow.
I've read through this several times and I'm having a difficult time figuring out where exactly are you supposed to put the tape. Is this something that will become more apparent once I open up the OBC?

i bought tham from http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/cata...ELlite_pg7.htm
Hi Ivopivo Kakosi?
if i were to remove the orange strip or tab and replace it with say blue lights would my obc display be blue?
if so i will attempt it, but only if you say it can be done

I did this diy today, and wanted to comment that this was a very good write up, pics helped a lot.
I put about 5 layers of tape (i didn't use 3m double sided tape, just some beige/clear opaque tape we had lying around), and one column of pixels still don't come out the bright orange like it should, but i figure another layer or two of tape would fix that problem, but after taking out the obc twice, the edges of my fingers hurt from pulling apart the obc, so i'll live with what i have. But it fixed all the other pixels that weren't coming out.

Am I the only one who can't see the pics now?
I used this tutorial to fix my OBC yesterday. It's amazing. It's like brand new. The pics I posted aren't the greatest, the first one was taken when the OBC wasn't even displaying text but you can see that most of the orange pixel lines are out. The second one shows the result after the first attempt. It's night and day. In that pic, the screen is dim in the middle and there's still 1 line not working but that was when I just sliced up a credit card and placed in on top of the rubber strip inside. I later opened it back up and used the tape as suggested and it's 100% working now. I think the dimming was because the board was bowed a little in the center.

The bulb for the clock still isn't lit. I tried swapping it with one of the working bulbs but that didn't fix it. All my bulbs work so I tried cleaning the contacts in that area with 91% alcohol. No go. Any ideas here?

I did this repair and the pixels on the left side are all lit up and clear...
The right side pixels seem to be there but I'm not sure because it's dimly light. Also, I can only see the clock/date during certain times of the day.
Sound like the bulbs are out? Part number for the bulbs? Thx.
Yes, the bulbs are out. I had the same problem on mine and changing out the bulbs fixed it.
I assume all of the bulbs for the 7, 11 & 18 button OBC's are the same. I have the 11 and the part number for the bulb is 62111391260. Might as well replace them all while you're in there. They're only $1.25 each from Pelican Parts so replacing the set only sets you back $5.

Thank YOU!!!!!!!! You sir are the man.
I did this fix today and it was a great write-up. I did pull the "connector strip" from my circuit board on the left side. I was afraid this would totally break it, but it didn't. The part where it came apart is now not 100%, but better than before. The part that didn't pull apart is 100%. I used two layers of new double sided mounting tape, it was on there pretty thick, but it wasn't a problem.
Thanks again.
HOLY CRAP! I never thought I'd see the temperature clearly again. It works!! Thanks.
Just did this.... GOD!! thank you so much!! almost bought a "newer" one....spent 1 hour, 2 tries, and now i only have one row out (right side of second O in CONTROL) i can actually read my temp instead of looking it up in the "Predator" dot dictionary. A million thanks!!

Can you just add to the existing "cushion"? In other words, in stead of removiing the old cushion and putting a new one on and building it up to the correct height, can you just put a piece of tape on top if it to make it thicker?
I would say yes.

would this trimmed down work as the cushion?
Great write up, fixed my display in about 15 minutes

Crazy question...Too satisfy my own curiosity, will a 18 button obc work in an a car that has an 11 button obc? Obviously without the extra functionality.
Bump...fixed my display! Now to figure out how to use it other than outside temp! lol
Awesome perfect fix. 100% of pixels functioning.
