    Sequential or Tiptronic tranny options

hey guys i was wondering if there are any Sequential or Tip(Step?)tronic options for my 99 e36 323is.

ive found a thread on our forum here that talks about it, but i dont think anyone really mentioned finding/swapping/building one. I know that there was an SMG1 for the e36 M3, but... i dont see them very often (as in not at all).

any options out there for building one? what about buying one and swapping one in?

thanks guys. auto is lame and everyone does a manual. i want something a little different.

haha thanks man i already ran through the forums on the site here, i was wondering if anyone had any other additional information.

by the looks of it, the e36 SMG I swap is the way to go, even if it isnt very reliable...

if anyone has any other info, id be glad to hear it.

You know why every one swaps to manual instead of step/triptronic?, because manual is superior in every way.

I've seen used SMG's from the E46 M3 for decent prices, don't know if will be a simple bolt on though to the S50/S52 though, though I'm a fan of the SMG trans, the GT2 LeMans E92 M3 uses the SMG, cause of less error and body fatigue, when racing for long periods of time. yea, let me know if theres such a swap documentation, that would be sik!

Swap a euro 6 speed; that would make you different and it would still be 100% functional and will be reliable. While you are at it, might as well get a 3.73 LSD too. I think the 6th gear turns out to be about the same as a 3.15 with a US 5 speed or slightly higher.

I'm kinda assuming he can't drive stick, other wise he would be trying to find a triptronic. That said, Euro 6 speed would be about 34 kinds of awesome.

    I'm a fool...I would prefer a clutch pedal...even if it's not as quick.

I for one welcome our quick shifting overlord

nothing wrong with a manual trans that shifts on command and clutch-pedal-less

I must respectfully disagree. I will gladly take an extra couple 100ths of a second on each shift in exchange pleasure of of using a proper manual gearbox.

    Wait... I don't actually mean "respectfully"... You're dumb .

haha no i can drive stick, i have been for a while. the BMW i own now is an auto, and that kinda sux.

the euro 6-speed sounds like a sick swap though. ive got a 3.23 (i think thats it... whatever comes with the auto trans) diff in it right now. from what i can tell, the SMG1 is crap, the SMG2 is good but requires tons of time and even more money to swap into an e36. i guess im doing the 6-speed swap

too bad. i like driving stick, but theres always been something cool about tiptronic transmissions.

does anyone know how often we see 6-speed euro trannys in North America?
