This is thread to end all the other oil threads.
I use Mobil one 10w-30
Here is an oil report after 6K on a high mileage engine that’s driven very hard.
Post your reports with different types of oil here.
Here is some more good stuff:

Refresh if the image doesnt come up (fucking photobucket).
I have used all types of oil all the way as thick as 20w-50. Mobil one 10-30 seems to be a winner. By looking at the amounts of aluminum and Iron its keeping my engine running well with little wear and viscosity break down, despite how hard I drive it.
One note: I always wait for the oil to warm up before getting the revs. abouve 3K RPM.
Nice. Mobil 1 is the way to go for sure. That's synthetic, right? I'm glad you posted this, because I am really due for a change and was looking for the best to run with. Let's get this thread parked.

I use Mobil 1 Super Syn European Formula 0W-40.
Works great. Change the filter at 3k and oil at 6k.
I agree. If anyone else has actual Quantitative oil reports post them here. We can then find the best oil.Originally Posted by Robstah
I was also told that 10-30 is thin enough to lubricate the journal bearings but thick enough to lubricate the fast moving parts...
I use 15w50 during the summer. It actually helped me pull some of my best times out of my e30. I got a 7.3 0-60 once.
e30...!?!?!?!?! bah....Originally Posted by heifetz17

M50 10w30 (140k)
Always full synthetic mobil1 for the S14
el cheapo dyno oil for the M42
Factory BMW oil for the M52 (when I had it, now that I sold it to my dad, he takes it to Jiffy Lube for his oil changes :
I initially put 5w30 in the M50 but it was too thin on startup, and made a racket
I started my car on 0w40 Mobil 1 about 3k miles ago. Once I hit 5k miles I plan on sending a sample to be tested. The previous owner said that it's been on synthetic, but some of the service records he gave me showed that it was on and off synthetic depending where he took the car for service.
I will report my results when I have the oil analyzed

Im going to try to go 6500 or 7000 miles on this oil and send it in.About $50 bucks an oil change adds up ($10 filter 2 five qt Mobil one jugs at wallyword for 20 buckes each= about 50 dollars)
The test costs 20 bucks, and they get you the results real quick.
And when the post office says "Anything liquid, flamable or potentialy dangerous?" Tell then no or they wont ship it.
Except that you have three extra quarts, and filters at a dealer cost about $6. So its like $34Originally Posted by Beamin'
