2009 E93 with GM transmission. I dropped trans pan and drained into an under lift catch pan so I don’t know how much drained out. (Stupid I know)
Installed new filter and gasket reattached pan. Went to refill system and was only able to put in 3 quarts. Everything I’ve read said it should take 5-6 but it drains out the fill port at 3. Should engine be running and warm? Odd that where I went wrong?

Yes to your question, and within a certain temp range. And running, at a certain point. You should look up the procedure steps. You may need to start over.
