doing paint correction over the winter on my 1998 M Imola Red

Couple of questions related to doing paint correction over the winter on my 1998 M Imola Red

I know there's really no way of determining the thickness of ClearCoat….
So I'm trying to determine best ways to measure how much I take off after buffing/polishing.
I'd like to buy a paint gauge off Amazon… Any recommendations?
Also any thoughts on what the original thickness of the paint/clearcoat should be?

    Any Thoughts/suggested would be appreciated…

Unless you plan on wet sand the car for whatever reason or your car has been repainted, you don't really need to worry about thickness during routine compounding/polishing. If you're using random orbital buffer you definitely don't need to worry and if you're busting out a rotary polisher, as long as you play it safe/smart you should be good as well.
