How do I reset Service Indicator- E30 325

I'm just about to jump in w/ both thumbs and try to install new Nicad batteries in my 87 325's Service indicator Processor-
After reinstalling it, I need to reset the Service Indicator- how is that done?
The mech. has said the board is bad ( see dead tach thread), and I'd like to see if new batt's fix the poblem.
Currently tach and warning lights on lowest row of instrument gauge don't function, yellow light is on in service indicator, and oil service light is on- thought oil is fresh.
Somebody scream if I'm going down the wrong road-
    S

my check oil light was on although I had fresh oil. I went to jiffy lube for a normal oil change, and they offered a full engine power flush ($45) and fill with new oil. I said cool, go ahead.

Oil service light was gone. When I start the car I get full green bar, and then it goes away.

I hope the si batteries change works. Here's a link for a diy

I've heard of several people just using a jumper wire to reset the service indicator.

I haven't tried it myself since the local Jiffy Lube has the reset tool for my car (many don't).

"How do I reset Service Indicator"
    Here's what I did:
    - Clicked on search button at the top of the forums
    - Typed e30 oil reset and clicked enter
    - 5th result down was a thread titled "How do I reset Service Indicator- E30 325"
    - Post 5 had this link with the instructions: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/repair_faqs/sil.html

    Total time using search function:
    About 40 seconds.
Total time between your post and AlfaEric's reply with the same info:
    1 day, 3 hours, and 45 minutes.

    Just sayin...

and how long did it take you to come up with that smart ass reply? you act like someone not using the search function is a waste of YOUR time...

replying to somebody to tell them to use the search function is a waste of your time, as is telling you to stay cool is a waste of mine.

    stay cool

    It was funny and needed.

I just reset my service light, it was so good I almost had to go beat off right then and there.

It's a slow day at work and I've got time to kill. Presumably the OP has a need for the information and the sooner he gets it the better. I never meant to imply that his question was a waste of my time; I was just trying to be helpful by pointing out that using the search feature really is a faster way to get answers.
