Getting quick connect of upper radiator hose off water pump?

Wow; this thing don't want to budge. Anyone got any tricks? Heat gun? Gentle coaxing with pliers? Obviously don't want to do any harm to water pump - don't care much about the quick connect plastic as I have a new one...

Please advise - I'm out in the snowy driveway as we speak :-). thanks!

Nevermind. Finally "got it". Destroyed the shit out of it, but, finally got it - without marring the waterpump.

Now, as I put on the new one and go to connect to radiator, I see a rubber O-ring and a plastic ring sitting on there. Don't know if they were part of old hose or should be in there... With my luck, I'll get it wrong and blow up (blow coolant all over everywhere) on the road. Again.

the oring and ring came from inside the coupler. make sure you clean the necks good, the oring is what makes the seal.

So I believe the plastic is keyed (can't remember) but there is enough play to get a little bit of twist to break the o-ring free. Then it will usually slip right off. There shouldn't be anything on the radiator. Lift the clip and slip the plastic off -- the o-ring should go with it. The new one should be as simple as sliding on and snapping the retaining ring down.

I like to leave the radiator end off the upper hose and fill the radiator with the drained coolant and also the block with coolant (by pouring through the hose) until I can see it in the hose. Then quickly stick the two together. You should have almost none of the coolant you drained out left over. Then bleed the car (which shouldn't take much) and you can fit the rest in.

    Thanks
all. I had to destroy the old "quick connect" at the water pump - did it gently to not muck up the water pump flange. Yaks, that was not easy. Got everything buttoned up. Seems to be okay despite that extra, solid, plastic ring on the radiator side with the 3/8" 'dashes' cut on the inner diameter. I see my new hose has the rubber O-ring in it and I set it up yesterday with no leaks after a 100 mile jaunt. Seems good. Thanks all.
