Exclamation Trans fail safe display/ no start? E60 m5 smg.

Waiting to get on the ferry and when loading I went through my normal startup procedure(which is extensive), BUT INSTEAD OF STARTING I received indication TRANSMISSION FAIL SAFE,etc, and car didnt turn over. I shut the ign off and re-inserted the key and went for it again, only to have the car start just fine. Scary! 77k on the original clutch/ trans etc. Anybody have any knowledge? I was able to snap a couple pics on the ferry with downtown seattle in the background . I always fear the 5-10 k trans failure.

The transmission itself won't fail, it will be the valve block, pump, electronic solenoids, or some other pile of garbage wrapped around the transmission. The repair bill will be humbling.

YAY FOR SALE! Time for a 550/6MT with half the miles, should be key for key, straight across. Does anybody know which motor is better? In an e60, I believe its a 4.4 545i or a 4.8 550i. I def want the M Sport with HUD and bigger brakes. Any input. The maintenance on the M is really taking off. Maybe an e39 M with low miles, im sure the maintenance isnt half what my e60 costs

    550i without question.

Don't touch a x45i even if someone else is paying for it.

I am in the car biz and we have a 550i 2006 and it runs fine and its super cheap, like 12 grand but 108 on the miles.... probably best I look at some lower mile in warranty options

That ebay car has more miles than mine lol, I guess with a 6MT it might be better. I advertised my car for 27,5 and had tons of calls. Wont last long!

S85's are known to run on hopes and prayers. The SMG trans doesn't help.
