Season is coming to an end for autocross and I'm looking back at the progress my car has made. Last year I started off with a completely stock BMW 128i to transform it into a full prep SCCA STX car.
2012 BMW 128i currently 14k miles

No Sunroof
And through the year this is what was added to the car:

Last couple modifications to be done next year are Headers, Differential and LTW Battery
My last National event was in Lincoln, NE.
Some people took some awesome shots of my 2012 BMW 128i Prepared for SCCA STX. This is during the ProSolo Finale and Nationals.
Enjoy!

Digging it! Wasn't this supposed to be your daily driver?

Thanks man. With headers and a diff the car should be making E36 M rated power at the wheels. Can't wait!
Yes, and it still is. Setting the suspension to full soft the car rides just like OEM practically. I carry my race wheels in the back seat and still ride on OE wheels daily driving.
Plus, the SPGs are way more comfortable driving in. The Sport seats gave me pinch points

Just curious but why start with a n N51 vs. N52? Did they even sell the N51 in Ohio?
Car looks nice though and I love seeing a 1 series on a track. They are very capable cars. I love mine

Initially I didn't know the car was a N51, I bought it in Arizona.
However, when you look at it, the N51 has a DISA Manifold. Under STX rules, you cannot do a manifold swap.
So, in theory, with the DISA the car is capable of making the most power vs a N52 w/out one.
Thanks for the comments.

Awesome stuff! I wish more projects like this were posted here in rides and styling.
Awesome 1 series!
Thanks! I do as well, I'm based but I'm all about function → form
Oh yea! Even with some fairly diff springs and shocks tuned up there is some body roll. However it is needed to load the true up. Once in a blue moon the car will 3-wheel. The rear suspension is much better than the E36 so it keeps the front wheels down a lot better
Thank you!
Thank you. Totally worth the money invested. I'd hate to say it but it is much more fun autoxing than my Z4M
Here is a video from today. 4th in PAX out of ~ 110

Great build--I have definitely thought of doing similar stuff to a stripper 128i. You've basically got an uglier but technically superior E36 M3, which would be nicer to daily (depending on coilovers I guess). Cool!
Thanks. Personally I don't think the 128i is ugly, well at least the M Sport edition. The stock bumpers are kind of ugly.
As far as superior, yea probably. The rear multi-link is much better in its design, so the front wheels stay down a lot more.
It is a bit shorter length wise but I think it is a tad bit fatter than a E36M. However once I install headers I'll be surpassing their wheel power levels.
Currently the car weighs at 2981 lbs in race trim. I still have a full exhaust and a 60 lb battery sitting in the back.

Sorry guys, no offense intended--the aesthetics are obviously a personal thing and I like older cars better.
Especially compared to an S50US or S52, the N51 has more potential as well.
Did the seats gain you any headroom?
Are you running an OEM open diff? I've been toying around with the idea of consolidating my cars for a single car; most likely a 135i and doing exactly what you've done here.
Yes, tons of headroom. I'm not even as low as the seats can go either.
I was last year, I now have a DiffsOnline 3 Clutch custom ramp diff in the car for this year.
Feel free to shoot my any questions.
