Its always changing, but with all the high HP cars off the show room floor these days, what would you consider a "fast" car for a street-able "daily" driver?
Poll up top! ^
Anything under 11 is definitely not a daily driver lol
I would still say anything under 14 is a quick car, 12-13 a fast car, and in the 11s is really Damn fast.
Suspension: Bilstein Sports, GC Coilover conversion, IE Subframe Bushings, IE RTABs, M roadster sways, M roadster front control arms, M roadster Front calipers/hubs.
Engine/Driveline: M54B30 intake Manifold, Dinan CAI, ZHP Cams, Headers, Underdrive pulleys, Conforti Software, 3.46 diff.
One that can keep me away from all the morons on the road
Those 0-60 times are a little slow. I think modern cars are a little faster.......
I will also add, I don't think the definition of a fast car/quick car has changed that much in the last 15-20 years, just the amount of cars that are hitting those numbers has increased significantly.

Several years ago I was looking for a fun daily driver. I was really interested in 540i's until my mom got one of the Accords that had just come out with 270 horsepower. Suddenly the maintenance intensive V8 became a lot less appealing.
These days I would say a car that traps 105 is a quick car, and over 115mph is fast.
I think I'm missing something here. What are the poll numbers referring to?
Not so much a signature as a cry for help.
Hold on, saw this in a cartoon once...think I can pull it off.
I'm going to bite my tongue and just politely say I disagree. A 13-14 second quarter mile will make most people need clean underware. Do you have any idea what it takes to run a sub 12 second 1:4 mile?
I'm heading to the drags tomorrow night with my supercharged m3. I'm hoping to crack 14. Wish me luck.

Good luck and I agree completely.
Yea id kill for 13s, even 14s would be awesome.

It takes a big investment of building, experience, time and money to get times much lower.
Back in the day both the '70 Chevelle and El Camino with the LS6 engines pushing 450 hp stock....it took a good driver to break 14 seconds.
These days it still takes a good driver and a large investment building fast street legal rods.
Larry Larson is one of those who doesn't mind making such an investment in street legal rides.
'97 540i/6s will break into the 13s with a good driver... stock.
bone stock
14.02
And here's an e30 that ran an 11.7 with 493 hp (500 PS). No idea if that's at the wheels or at the crank. My setup should be conservatively pushing 420 whp once complete, so yes, I might have an idea of what's involved.
Yes a 540i with a good driver and good to excellent conditions will break into the 13s and even faster when equipped with a supercharger. A 540i even broke into the 11s two years ago.
Scroll down and look at the times on the 540i, M3 and the 335s M-sport and coupe. Clicking on the individual car will give the specs and verify if it's stock.
Then click on the video link of the car type for 1/4 mile times on the 540i. http://www.dragtimes.com/last50.php

Nowadays I think it is all about doing more with less. It is all about efficiency, lightness and forced induction.
I would consider something fast if it rockets you from 0 to triple digits without much drama but still fun to drive and has plenty of power in low rpms. Most automakers getting good with this, with the aid of turbos and whatnot.
Also, I think Tesla S is what I consider fast. I like the idea of instant torque anytime. When you put your foot down, you don't need to wait for fuel to burn and rpms to rise, and power to be made. No need for transmission to downshift either. Plus, you can drive your EV all day like a lunatic and you wouldn't worry about the penalty for driving hard, since it'll cost you mere 5-10 bucks to recharge it.

Considering the pony cars are in the 12s now and typically cost in the high 30s to mid 40s. .. Besides c/d is optimistic sometimes. The v6 accord and v6 carry are quick, but again, it is still a quick car. A car that runs high 12s is going to be more than a handful for most drivers. Even a car that runs 13-14 will be as well.

My problem with this question is some cars feel extremely fast without putting down impressive numbers, and conversely some cars feel slow but are rather quick from a numbers perspective...
