1991 BMW 325i(Current Daily) (S52)
I have carburetors, and I'm not afraid to use them!
There are always other fish (engines) in the sea (Craigslist)
Life is about enjoying the engine you are sitting behind.
I've been drag racing since I was 16 at New England Dragway (17) years. Started running foxbody mustangs. Since 2008/9 I've been running my E36 328is. Been moding this car for years, first and foremost it takes alot more than just power to go fast in the 1/4.
ET (time) really only depicts traction. Trap (speed) is what shows power. A big tire muscle car can run 10s @ 110ish with a 1.0-1.3 60ft time. To get a BMW into the 10s you will need 130+ MPH and a smoking good 60ft (1.6-1,7) . These cars are just tough to launch.
That being said, when my car was supercharged back in the day it was pretty quick, faster than most on the road. It was trapping roughly 109-110. I never launched the car on drag radials/slicks when I was S/Ced so I was in the 13s with it. Now having over 500 wheel HP, and visiting the track frequently I have needed to rehab and upgrade the entire suspension/chassis to get this pig to hook enough to crack into the 11s @ 127 next year shooting for 10s.
12s are fast, dam fast.
11s are extremely fast. BUT most 11 second E36s would chew up alot of 10 second domestic cars on the street. If we could hook up like they could we would be in the high 9s low 10s.

And an automatic transmission. And a built motor. And a roll cage. And a trailer. And another car to drive now that this is a project car dragracer.
One must also consider the DA (density altitude) of where the times are coming from. Running at sea level on a 60 degree day with low humidity is going to give a lot of great results. Lets say a 540i goes 13.8 @103 in these conditions. The same car running at Bandimere when its 90 degrees out is going to be lucky to run a 15 flat and trap 95 mph. I wouldn't consider the car to be slow, but I would consider it a 15 second car. Stock 2013 V8 Camaros, Challengers, etc run 14s here. The newer Mustang 5.0 takes a good driver to crack a 13 and they still don't trap more than 103. C7 Vettes are mid-low 13 second cars, stock CTS-Vs hover around 13 flat and trap 108. I wouldn't consider any of those cars to be slow. Also for reference, the new Challenger Hellcat went 12.1 @118 here vs. 11.2 @125 at sea level.
Imo there is essentially: quick, fast, and scary fast. Quick is for gas mileage, fast is for fun dd, and scary fast is for track car.

Not true, next spring I will be clicking 10s with full interior and daily driving. There are a good hand full that can do this . the problem is , when setup for daily use the same car that runs high 10s low 11s would be a 9 second car if prepped. No extra power needed. Just weight reduction , 2 ply tires and some seat time. Seat time is most important. Much more important than power to be honest.
