What is my car worth REALLY?

Hi I have a 1997 Red with tan top Z3 Roadster 1.9. I live in Hawaii so I had to pay $2200 to ship the car here from the Midwest. This car has had only 2 owners, myself and my mother. It only has 44,700 original miles. There is no rust, no chips in paint. New Z series tires. Just put in a new radiator (scraped it on my driveway). I am on disability so I am on a strict budget. I need to sell this car while it still has some value in it. Kelly blue book says just over $7000. I really was hoping to get closer to $10,000 for it. Is that unrealistic? One guy told me to ask $25,000 for it because it is almost a classic and I KNOW that is not realistic. I was thinking of listing it for $12,500 and see what happens. Any advise? I welcome any feedback. I NEED to be the one that comes out on top on this deal. Thank you

I think you kind of missed the boat on "still has some value to it" ...$7,000 in my area for that car would be very optimistic. $10k would be dreaming. The market in Hawaii is a bit different, but paying $2,200 to ship it - sorry to say - is meaningless when it comes to resale value. If you list at $12,500 you likely wont get any hits at all, but it never hurts to start there and then lower the price slowly until you start getting some nibbles. But that is to say that if you are in a rush to sell the car, I would start much lower.

i would say if you want to at lest make 8 or 9 off it list it for 10, than if someone is wavering on the price drop a thousand off and you'll sell the car and still make what you want. I feel 8k would be about right for your car though.

The shipping part might bight you in the ass though....

I'd say around 8 to be a realistic price.

10k really isn't going to happen with a 1.9 ... yes the miles are low, but it's not like people are lining up to have a z3 with a tiny motor. :/

That looks about right. They're selling above 7k on ebay with more miles.

KBB and NADA don't mean anything on a car like this. A 1997 with that mileage is hard to find so the price will be higher than average, but it's certainly not a collectors item like some would think. A dealer would probably list this for $10-12k in PERFECT condition. I would be willing to bet that the car isn't perfect. You mentioned it had a radiator replaced because you scraped it. Did you repair the bumper that you totally maimed in the process? Does the top work perfectly? How is the back window? Are the tires a name brand like Michelin or are they Korean specials? $7500-8500 as mentioned would be a fair price if the car didn't need any repairs or refinishing.

So, is the car nice or is a POS?

Ladypeav, welcome to the forum. I doubt you will be able to get $10k for your car, even on Kauai. But try listing it at $10k, and you never know what will bite.
