Why does a $70,000+ BMW sell for $1,000 when it hits 18-20 years old? Does a Mercedes hold value better?
Some people say cucumbers taste better pickled
Plenty of $25-35k cars that are 20 years old sell for $1000. What $70000 bimmer have you seen sell for $1000. Only example i can think of you gotta go back 30 years to the 745i.

That is what I think of when I see the above poster's name.
fatcat is actually poor. Only poor people care about residuals and drive an 18 year old v12 BMW.
A lot of crap is gonna be crap when you compare it to Porsche

My 528 is a German Tank..
My 2008 Chihuahua is Blue deal with it
Always teaching now getting paid for it.
^ It's Italian..! Imo the worst looking car on the planet.
When I see one on the streets I always need to drive next to it for a sec to see who's driving it and then wonder what motivated that person to own one of those.
It's like thinking about the size of the universe, just can't grasp it.
Geos were POS's the like of which we simply don't see anymore. My dad had a Geo Tracker back in the 90s. Driving it was like navigating a small sailboat in a high wind. He drove it carefully, but nevertheless eventually flipped it. My HS gf had a Metro with ... wait for it... forty-six HP! Driving that on the highway was scary as hell. So they were incredibly dangerous POS's, while the worst of the BMWs are merely unreliable, expensive-to-repair POS's.
So, to answer OP's question -
This thread totally belongs in Off-Topic and not in General.
Finally, a 14 that knows what he's doing.
Right on young blood. Gettin' paid gettin' paid!
My mom owned a PT cruiser. She crashed it - on the way home from the body shop after getting a fresh paint job, no less - and she bought another PT cruiser.
It's a suitable car for a 65-year-old middle school teacher.
Technically they were Japanese market cars built in North America rebadged for sale in The U.S. to compete with the compact imports.
The Tracker is a Suzuki Escudo, the Metro is a Suzuki Cultus, the Prizm is a Toyota Sprinter, the Spectrum is an Isuzu Gemini, and the Storm is an Isuzu Piazza.
They weren't really designed for interstate use.
Why? Because confirmation bias. You expect them to be expensive so you notice when they're not, BMWs are usually still more expensive than a comparable car from the same year, and anything for $1k is a heap of carp.
