Okay, so I have a dumb question. I'm fairly new to the bmw world. I drive a 2004 325I, and as I'm driving down the road, between 2000-2500 rpms it makes a light rattling noise from what sounds like the motor, but goes away after I surpass 2500 rpm, or go below. What's weird is it only makes the noise under load, it doesn't make it while free revving. I'm used to owning Japanese cars so this is my first bmw I've owned. I'm kind of stumped so far.

You might be best to ask this on the e46 subforum here: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...2006-%28E46%29
I would take a guess that something is hitting a resonance.
Is the car a manual or automatic?
Current fleet:
1999 BMW e36 M3
1999 BMW e36 328is with rotary valve engine head
1999 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight
1990 Jeep Comanche Eliminator
1962 Austin Healey Sprite
how many miles are on the car? it could be the Vanos system timing. try a bottle of bars main bearing seal.
what is also good is Lukes motor Oil 1 quart works wonders.
or it could be exhaust guards you have to pin point where the sound is coming from.
@Pizzaman09 , thanks, I'll give it a shot, and it's an auto
@Kenny , it's got 144k miles on it, I was thinking that it was a guard rattling but I keep second guessing myself, it's hard pinpointing the exact area it's coming from since it only makes the noise under load. Its hard figuring it out with my head out of the window lol
