Just wondering?
Anyone besides me gives their cars name?
If so why? I got my reasons but I want to heat what others say
I never have and I still don't ... that said, my girlfriend named my current e36 "Vanilla thunder" and I kinda like it so I will use it occasionally and call it "Vanilla". lol
Well that's one reason lol
Out of all the cars i owned, i only ever named my 92 s10, Brandy.
1991 BMW 325i(Current Daily) (S52)
I have carburetors, and I'm not afraid to use them!
There are always other fish (engines) in the sea (Craigslist)
Life is about enjoying the engine you are sitting behind.
I just feel like naming the car gives it more personality. Feels better driving her
My family named our first e38, "Old Bessie, or Bessie." Mainly because we would say every time we got in it that we hoped that Old Bessie would start.
Current fleet:
1999 BMW e36 M3
1999 BMW e36 328is with rotary valve engine head
1999 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight
1990 Jeep Comanche Eliminator
1962 Austin Healey Sprite
"Fritz"
Vanilla Thunder is hilarious.
My first car, a 78 Carolla, was Bessie, as in an old cow or horse that you had to prod to move. Slowest car ever.
My E36 was Julius, as in Dr. J, because it was so athletic. BMW brass would have liked that I suppose.
My black E46 is Angus, as in Angus Young, because after crashing Julius I was Back in Black.
I do if I'm inspired to, but that appears to have no correlation to any of the rest of the ownership experience. My first BMW (black on black E34 535/5) got a name before I even bought it, because "Irina" just came to me during the testdrive. My current BMW (calypso on black E34 544i wagon), despite a vanity plate, being owned longer, driven further, had more adventures in and with it, and having at least 1500 hours of work in it before it even left the garage... still doesn't have a name. My 81 Toyota 4x4 got a name only after several months and a rebuild of a bunch of things.
I think it depends on how much and what kind of personality the car has, and what names you associate with those personality traits, something you learn through culture, media, and personal experience. "Bessie" is more commonly a cow's name than a person's these days. "Hilda" (the 81 Yota) I associate with tough, earthy people. In Irina's case, it was something about black leather, a tingling sensation, and a big grin...
Or someone randomly names it during a memorable episode and the name just sticks. I had an 86 Toyota pickup that someone said looked like neapolitian icecream (strawberry, vanilla, chocolate) because it was part pink, part white, and part black, and "Napoleon" it became.

Yes. I see cars the way I see pets. It's your companion, if you take care of it, it will take care of you and like any pet it needs a name. My first bimmer was a jet black 318ti, I named her Bruna and yes all my cars are female. My current 01 AW 325i is called Snow White Queen which is inspired by the song from my favorite band, Evanescence.
Yes. I named mine Ron due to the color.
I've named my cars as far back as I can remember. Why not right? Like someone said, they become part of your life after a while, some a very short while. I wouldnt go around telling people that but, because someone asked... My cars names;
2007 Z4M with black top, Emily
2007 Z4M with beige top, Emma
2004 Z4 3.0, Olivia (guess what color)
2002 Suzuki XL-7, Suzie
Yep, they all have names, can't curse 'em properly if they don't have a name!
My E34 was "Dieter"
Current E39 is "Otto"

I decided to call her Aletta Ocean.
I had a truck that I called Fitzwilliam Darcy. He was cold and unfeeling, but always dependable and secretly loved to be driven.
I call them 'Marclar'. Today I drove my E38 Marclar. Tomorrow I will be driving the E36 Marclar, becuase it will be Friday.
I call my car Car whenever I refer to it by "name."
