Need help - Please advise, do I repair it? or scrap it?
I have a 2000 323i that I purchased 2 1/2 years ago. My car was making noise, clunking, squeaking. Last week I towed my car to a couple of repair shops both said they have never seen anything like it, so I just had it towed to a frame specialist.

This is what he said - cost to repair $5,000 to $6,000.
"Frame damage is pervasive in the rear suspension cross member support area. The area in question has three main panels that the support area was originally welded together with bolt in hardpoint. Due to abuse the mount areas are pulled through by the suspension cross member and must be reconstructed from the trunk interior and the bottom as material is missing from all parts. The damage was started at least three years ago and has been failing progressively with each hard clutch drop. Restoration time to reconstruct would be about a week at a cost between $5,000 to $6,000 (as I mentioned above). This would constitute a complete repair."
He mentioned something about the previous owner (original owner) doing a quick clutch release which indicates to me that he used it to race? Previous owner must have known about his own abuse to the car.
Other than needing some other minor maintenance, (compared to above) rear brakes, brake fluid being topped off and possibly a bushing needs to be replaced, car is mechanically sound, interior is in beautiful shape, as well as the outside. This is my first BMW and I love it, but the question is do I repair my car or do I salvage it? There is only a little over 100,000 miles on it and it will cost me just under what I paid for it. What would you do? Thank you
