Hello Bimmerforums,
So tomorrow im going to check out this E30 with a M50B25 in it, however I am wondering, where exactly can I see the name of the engine?
So I can confirm it is actually a M50B25 and not just something similiar.
Thanks in advance!

Seems like thats gonna be a challenged on that engine looking at it, on the spot.

So now I know wheres it located, however are there anything I should look for, to make sure its a M50B25? (As I probably wont be able to see the id number)
Also the numbers I see on other engines, I cant find those in that .Pdf you posted?
Look at the obvious
M50 Manifold, Vanos Selenoid, oil cap location
But to answer your question correctly, only way to know is to look at the block marking near the driver's side engine mount bracket.
For example there will be engine serial number and right under it will be engine type coding.

30 s 6 1 (3.0L S50)
28 s 6 2 (2.8L M52)
25 s 6 2 (2.5L M52)
32 s 6 2 (3.2L S52)
30 s 6 3 (3.0L M54)
or
Pull the coil and the plug and measure the stroke using a wooden dowel.
s52 is 89.5mm or just a tick over 3.5in. s50 is 86mm 3.4in m50/2 will be 84mm or less.

You can tell easy if it m50/s50, m52/s52 but that 's all that matters you don't have to cheack anything else, it has to be at least 2.5 doubt it's 2.3. Anything else is a bonus.
