you need computer software and cables to clear the codes. Best bet is to take it to a local independent repair shop, or a dealer. I am pretty sure the transmission error light is real time. If its on the error is present. Once the error is no longer detected the light goes out.

yes, i should have been more clear. the codes are always stored in the computer, but the computer only triggers the error light on the dash if the fault is currently happening. old codes stored in the computer don't affect the transmissions performance, nor will they keep the error light on. They are purely there for repair shop diagnostic purposes.

I am not super familiar with all the workings of the SMG, but i do know that they are known to be problematic. I would still recommend taking it to someone who can read the codes. It will give you insight into the problem

Ouch! Sorry man, reasons like these are why I decided upon a ZHP instead of an M3. Hopefully things get sorted.

Some SMG owners buy those things in bulk.

I owned an 05 with SMG for 2 years. 9 track days and a fair bit of mixed driving (25k miles total) and never had an issue. Hopefully this was just a little bump in the road.

    I blame the lawyer.

Not necessarily because it's the lawyer's fault, I just don't like lawyers.
Not so much a signature as a cry for help.

Hold on, saw this in a cartoon once...think I can pull it off.
