I just bought an 03 m3 yesterday clean car fax dealer maintained owned by a lawyer drove it 250 miles to a relatives turn the car on today cog light on auto is in limp mode, manual all gears work this happened as soon as car was on any fix software ??? Is it safe to drive in manual ?? is there a way to clear the code see if it was a fluke
you need computer software and cables to clear the codes. Best bet is to take it to a local independent repair shop, or a dealer. I am pretty sure the transmission error light is real time. If its on the error is present. Once the error is no longer detected the light goes out.

Yea that's what I thought but then I herd if it was the transmission made an error and fixed the code is stored till cleared ??? All gears manual work
yes, i should have been more clear. the codes are always stored in the computer, but the computer only triggers the error light on the dash if the fault is currently happening. old codes stored in the computer don't affect the transmissions performance, nor will they keep the error light on. They are purely there for repair shop diagnostic purposes.
I am not super familiar with all the workings of the SMG, but i do know that they are known to be problematic. I would still recommend taking it to someone who can read the codes. It will give you insight into the problem

Ouch! Sorry man, reasons like these are why I decided upon a ZHP instead of an M3. Hopefully things get sorted.
