I like how he tries to justify giving his kid a 300hp turbocharged BMW as their first car, as if doing that is the more reasonable and responsible decision.

My first car was a camry. I would prefer my kid drive something SAFE and SLOW like that as his first car, because I dont want him to risk his life to be the coolest father in the world.

While that particular car wouldn't be my first choice for a new driver, my first post still applies. Nothing slows a kid down like fear of losing a ton of time/money/freedom fixing his/her needless mistakes.

I think we should give this guy his "automotive" opinions and not his parental opinions.

I'm young and have only had my license for about 2 years and i'm telling you do not get them a nice car! i can tell you even just having my 180 hp E36 gets me in trouble. i'm so glad i have something that isn't worth a lot of money because i run the shit out of it and tinker and break things all the time. coming from a teen mouth might sway your idea to get them a super nice first car. oh and fender bender happen all the time. its gonna happen!

    Wow
Looks like lot of b&*hurt people here

He is buying the car for himself to have fun with, first and foremost. We don't know what's gonna happen 5-6 years from now.

If he wants a car for himself, buy a 435 and buy his son an E46 in 5 years. That would be reasonable.

Buy him a $1000 e30 and teach himself how to drive, fix and be responsible for a car.

My first car was a e39 530i and at age 20 i own a 540 m sport as of just recently being a teenager i can tell you that all teens are different. If you teach your kids to respect the car and how to drive responsibly they most likely wont get into trouble. A few times i have came around a corner to fast and if I would have been in a camry i would have probably wrecked into a mailbox or garage.

Sports cars make it more likely to get into trouble but easier to get out of it. My 2 cents

If you loved you son you would get him a 997TT.
If you can't do that you failed as a parent/father/human.

    I have failed.

    Best advice yet.
Life is like a car wash and I'm on a bicycle.
