30g I would expect interior and body in perfect original condition.
Im no guru, but id say it definitely is. Especially with the misperfections he mentions
It definitely seems overpriced. I've been searching for one and found much better deals between $15-$20k
I agree. If it was a Euro model in excellent original condition, perhaps, but not a US model. Maybe in 10 years? If it's really a one owner car with a complete maintenance history this is a plus but not $30K.

I say yes. One owner, low mileage, repaint. 30k seems spot on IMO.
Then my car is worth $40K. Euro model, original paint, original interior (excellent condition), full maintenance history. I know, I'm dreaming.

30g and a repaint no way. I want to see original perfection for that kind of money. being a car tech myself . resprays have alot to hide.
I have seen same km cars for half that money.

Under 50K miles with absolutely NO imperfections...maybe.
That's a $18-20K car all day long. IMHO

Robert URICH did not drive an e24 in "Spencer for Hire" but Hawk (Avery Brooks) did. This was part of the inspiration for the purchase of my first e24 in '87This BMW is a collector's dream, there weren't a whole lot of these cars manufactured in 1988. Remember the car Robert Ulrich use to drive in the TV Series Spencer For Hire...well if you dreamed of owning that car now is your chance!
i agree this is overpriced especially with the damaged bolster, possible paint issues and admitted issue on front quarter.
A mint example with less than 20K miles might be worth $30K. That one is not.

It's always amusing when somebody advertises a car as being in "mint condition" and then goes on to tell you about the repaint(s), the dings, the "normal" wear and tear in the interior, etc. In NYC, in comparison to the ubiquitous rusted and dented beaters, maybe some people actually do consider this a mint condition car. Everyone's standards are different, and that's why as a buyer you always have to proceed with caution if taking a seller's word at face value. Being a one-owner is a big plus though, but not enough to make it a $30K car.

"With power locks, power seats, power windows, new rims and a 5 speed transmission this car attracts a lot of attention!"
My power door locks are an attention-grabber as well. Well, when the passenger side refuses to unlock, anyway!
A good $15k car, maybe.
Cheers,

here is a thought. so alot chat about what they think something is worth . but here is something i noticed. and I could be wrong
ebay at times show true market value.
you see what top bids hit and that goes to show market value
few weeks ago there was a 88 m6
super clean mint interior with 100000 miles
top bid was $9100
Everything on ebay is priced at double the value. I think it's in the rules. $15k would maybe even be ambitious if you needed to sell quickly. There's a lot of E24 selection in that price range. Not all at once, but over a period of time.
Maybe it's just the wording, but it sounds like it was painted on occasionally, not actually repainted. That's a bad thing.
Combine age and mileage, this car is at the cusp of needing a lot of simple maintenance work so by default, cannot be a 30K car. Always wonder what the fate of a car like this will be. Only a certain person is looking for an M6 and if they are, they usually have a long history with BMW's , are in the know and won't go near this price.

Bidding activity is not really a good indicator unless it actually sells. I had a truck listed recently and ran it 4-5 times. The most it ever bid up to was 39k which was less than reserve. I did work a deal with one of the bidders and finalized the deal at 47k but this will never show on eBay.
Rob, this is a good point. Car prices or fair market value is a more subjective than objective. I've had some folks "share" on purchases over the years and been shocked when they said "I stole it for $22K or $26K" Only to find out someone "in the know" got the same darn car (diff color..) with 5K less miles for $10K less...NOW, they're IN the know

I've seen similarly overpriced cars hundreds of times over there years... I think it goes something like this: Original owner has the car in his garage for many years, slowly falling into non-use. The ebay seller whoever he is, sees the car and is like wow that's worth a lot of money! Tells the owner he'll sell it for a slice of the profits. Seller wants a really big slice, so he doubles or triples what the owner would sell it for. No one buys and the seller moves on. Car continues to sit in the garage until someone comes along with a reasonable offer, or the owner dies and the exact same scenario plays out again when the heirs see dollar signs in the garage.
I suggest we stop crying about our cars selling for 30k and remain silent in hopes that in the near future, we can demand 10k for a rusted out beater..Ijs.
