    Driving Gloves

Anyone have the BMW M driving gloves? The steering wheel on my car is so slick I'm looking for some gloves that have some grip to them. I could probably just get some mechanics gloves as well.

That was my first thought as well, but I'd rather see someone driving around with those on than someone missing a turn due to NOT wearing them.
I'd rather change the steering wheel or put a cover around it for more grip.

On the interstate? Yes. In town? Certainly. On a twisty road, driving with verve? Not so.
    Do your hands ever sweat?

This is going to sound strange, but ... increase your grip slightly? Unless your hands and/or steering wheel are covered in vaseline, you should not be having this issue. The steering wheel in your car is no different than the steering wheel in any other BMW made in the last 2 decades.

I do but not before I drive and they're usually still very dry and cracked.

I'm mainly talking about winter; I wear some kind of gloves until the car warms up, and the combination of slippery gloves and slippery wheel worries me. I've never tried gloves in warmer months, although it's slick enough I'm thinking about it. I've thought about having it recovered but need to check on cost. I'd rather not put some dorky cover over it.

Certainly what I do now, but frankly this is the slickest steering wheel I've had in at least my last 10 cars. None of the leather in this car feels like leather.

Just get a pair of nice leather gloves and you should be set. I have a set and they keep my hands nice and warm as well as add grip.

No I never wore gloves except if it was below freezing outside, but I live in a Mediterranean climate now and it never gets below freezing all year round.

Seconded. Warm water and some leather cleaner will work wonders. I bet your steering wheel is completely glossy.

Or maybe recover with a cover from wheelskins or redline (suede). Even if you just wanted an excuse for new toys, it'll definitely increase grip.

Actually those aren't particularly warm - thank god, welding is hot enough as is.

But, if OP needs to grab a flaming steering wheel or change the tire on Ghost Rider's bike, they could come in handy.

I have a pair of insulated leather dressy gloves but they are still a bit slippery. I'm thinking a pair of the mechanix gloves with suede will grip better.

Yes it is glossy; I'll try some Lexol cleaner.

But I noticed this week with the warmer weather that grip is a lot better.

That's because the pores in the material will have opened up more with the warmer temps. In time they too will fill up with the gunk that is on even clean hands (we're animals, we produce oils, dessicated skin, etc.). Clean the wheel with a leather cleaner.

Clean it with a Mr. Clean magic eraser, that's what I use on my wheel to keep it from being glossy looking

It's a bit aggressive, so go easy on it if you do use that. I love magic erasers though, they keep the rubber on my chucks blindingly white.

I wear driving gloves most of the time, especially in the Winter. They keep my hands warm and make me think I'm a transporter.

My Girlfriend bought me the black leather 'M' driving gloves. I almost never wear them unless I know I am about to reinact a scene out of transporter or something

Seriously though they are nice to have year round for different conditions. Winter, good for not having my hands freeze on solid steel shift knob (but I wear a set of mechanics gloves anyway) and during the summer they are great for not burning my hand on the solid steel shift knob

I also have super sweaty hands, so instead of getting nasty sweat, oil, and grease all over the steering wheel, I will wear the gloves. They almost grip too much sometimes

I would never use a Magic Eraser on leather. It's basically a low-grade sand paper. You will almost certainly remove some leather material with each use.

Well, I cleaned the steering wheel a couple times with Lexol but it hasn't really seemed to help. What I have noticed is that my grip is poorest when my hands are dry, which is often. (I have very dry hands, especially in winter, or if I'm sick and am washing them or using sanitizer a lot, which is lately.) When I use lotion more or my hands are a little bit sweaty the grip is a lot better.

Glad you finally realized its your hands that are the issue not the steering wheel! #9 post in this thread was a pretty clear indication of that! Hands that are dry enough to crack will just slide all over clean leather.

Why not just cup your hands and exhale a bit into em to get some moisture on em before driving? Or if that doesnt quite cut it, have you considered keeping a travel size lotion in your car and putting just a pea-size amount on your hands prior to driving? You may need to clean your steering wheel a bit more often, but I think spending 5 minutes wiping down your steering wheel once a month beats looking silly wearing gloves around everywhere!
