In the market for an X5. What mileage should I not go over if purchasing an 04 - 05?

I want a 2004 - 2006 X5. Either a 4.4i or a 4.8is. What is the maximum mileage I should accept for this vehicle? I am new to BMW. Thanks!

For me, mileage is not as important as maintenance on the vehicle. With that said, I assume 12k miles/yr is the average.

I just bought a 2004 3.0 with a122,000 miles on it. I am the second owner I have a history of all maintenance drives tight looks and drives like it's brand-new. Ive had real good luck with high mileage cars if you buy the right one. But who knows time will tell.

I've the same experience as above with high mileage BMW's just depends what your looking to do with it, you might find that around 100,000 Miles lots of parts on these(and all other BM's) start to fail! So if you find the right car with high mileage that's been well cared for, all of the faults should have been rectified. I picked up a 2004 sport 4.4 facelift with 140000 on the clock 3 weeks ago, from a dealer for £5K and its fantastic, non of the usual X5 faults I'm reading about! I also looked at a 2004 4.6 (non facelift) with only 69,000, the dealer wanted £7500 for it, and it was falling apart, in a right mess! If not looked after, or not driven, BMW's start to age real fast!

That all said though, I'm just finding out that the N62 right side timing chain tensioner can NOT be replaced with the engine fitted!!!... Bugger!... Its ok now, but for how long?!... And ill be of to ZF in Dortmund for a GB service ASAP(luckily I live some of the year in Germany)

    Good Luck
