Has anyone ever seen a Z4 police car?
There was an e36 m3 one in jersey but never seen a z4. Why you ask? Have you?
You'll never see a non-American police car in WA state. Even the chase cars are modern Mustangs and Chargers.
I've seen pictures of BMW cop cars in LA before. I'd think a simple google search would work.

Hold on, saw this in a cartoon once...think I can pull it off.
Nope never seen one and don't know why you'd think there would be one.. It wouldn't make for a good police car..
2006 Z4 Black/Black-Sold
2002 Z3 Black/Beige-Sold
2004 Imola Red/Black M3-Sold
2005 Alpine White/Gray M3-Sold
1999 Alpine White/Mulberry M3-Sold
South Carolina would not accept the car (actually a 5 Series, not a 3 Series) as it would be a conflict of interest but it did let BMW loan them the car for one year. It was indeed put into service as I saw it on I85 around Greenville with several "surprised" motorists that it pulled over.
Now that you mention it, I do think it was a 5 -Series.
According to the site linked to below, SC used M-5's as patrol cars, but I don't recall ever seeing any of them in use.

From the link...
"The South Carolina Highway Patrol used three BMW M5s during the early to mid-1990s. These cars were given to South Carolina after BMW chose the state to host their first assembly plant in the U.S."

There was only one and it was in service for one year and then returned to BMW.
Actually I have one and was wondering if it was possibly the only one around...
I don think putting flashing blue LEDs in your car makes it a police car

True but carrying a badge and gun for over 22 years kind of gives it some credibility....
I am actually a chief of police and the city pays me a vehicle allowance and instead of getting something traditional I thought I would put some money with it and get something that I truly enjoyed... I don't work the streets but it is actually a police car. When I get stressed or have a problem to sort out I hop in it and get some "air therapy" and all is right in the world...
This is fkn awesome! I bet your job just got more exciting, imagine if you had something stronger inside the hood :o Are you allowed to modify the car, performance wise? (I would think so)
I'd love to get pulled over by your car so I can tell everyone as soon as I get home! As long as you let me off with a warning
Seems pretty cool, but you wouldnt be allowed to pull someone over in that car would you?

It meets all the criteria for an Emergency Vehicle and could be used to stop someone but it really isn't going to be used for that though. If something really bad happens it will be used to get on scene.... as quickly as possible. It will also be used as a "show car" of sorts to show kids and do some parades and things.
I can modify it anyway I want and I would love to have more HP under the hood. It is the 3.0i which is pretty good by itself... but like everyone I would like to have more power... (insert Tim the Toolman Taylor's grunting) .... I have also been in discussion with a manufacturer on designing some new LEDs that will actually be the first of its kind. So I am hoping it will come together real soon.
Over the years I have had many convertibles (Toyota, Infiniti, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz) but this is the first real sports car I have driven on a regular basis and really like it.

@Montaillou- The fleet has silver unmarked detective cars but it isn't intended to be like one of the regular cars. It is more in line with the Corvette, Camaros, Mustangs, and other types like that... of course this one is much better (IMHO)

@Pyewacket69 - I wasn't trying to be smart and just read my post and can see where it might have came off that way. I was just intending to let folks know that I have been a cop for a LONG time... I am fortunate that for the first time in my life I can have a combination Police Work / Fun Car that I REALLY enjoy.. this is probably my last gig in the business and if I get out alive I intend to a "Professional Road Trip Bum" ... Now to find a way to make the "Professional" part pay for the "Road Trip" part.... Maybe I won't get shot at during that career.. LOL

I looked up your location and read the bio of the police chief. So, either you're him or you're posing as him (it's the internet). Anyways, I brought up the paint scheme because I kinda think it'd look great if it was in official police colours. And it'd certainly look good at parades, schools, etc. It'd also make a great signature pic!
If you want more power, suggest you get an M. The cheapest way to add HP has always been to get an M. I believe there is a supercharger available for the 3.0, but unless you're doing the labour yourself, the M will still be cheaper in price difference.

Yeah its me. Eddie Adamson the chief in Chickasha... the guy who thinks "left field" is not only a good place to be from but also a great place to build a house and live forever....
I can design a computer and all sort of techy things but when it comes to anything mechanical... like Clint Eastwood said (I believe)... "Every man needs to know his limitations" and working on anything is not in the cards for me.
When I lived over near Memphis TN all of my convertibles were stick shifts and with all the stop and go driving I swore I wouldn't get another stick so this one is an automatic. Not sure if they make an M that is an auto ... of course I know that is an evil concept for some but I just don't like that for my fun driving and road trips.
When I am all done with it there will be logos and police graphics but I am not there yet... it is a work in progress... I am working trying to use an Ipad mini to control the lights and also serve as a streaming dash cam... but like I said it is a work in progress.
It is alot of fun as is. One of our officers has a personally owned Corvette and we are planning on going to the children's hospital in OKC and giving some of the long term kids rides around in them.
At any rate it is alot of fun.
I am open to any suggestions on things.. this is my first BMW so I am still trying to figure some things out.
Thanks for everyones help

I shot some more video of it in the parking lot of the station this morning. The guys wanted to see it after we added the lights in the headrests and the ones under the mirrors. The POLICE logo lights up really nice in the dark but doesn't show up great in the daytime.

No z4 M's are automatic. So, best bang for your buck would be a supercharger. It'll be a pretty cool cop car when it's all done.
