Hey all, anyone have an idea on how to make everything fit behind the headunit? I picked up the pkg from crutchfield and I ordered the separate PAC SOEM-4 but I can't find enough room for it.
TIA
Here is what I can tell you: the SOEM4 is a miserable, noisy, failure prone pile of junk.
Use a 70-8590, NOT the 70-8591.
Connect only the positive speaker wires, do not connect the decks speaker wires to anything, simply insulate them.
Next, connect the 4 input grounds (negative speaker wires from the "car side") to chassis ground.
What this will do is drop your decks output level to provide roughly the same input level as your stock deck, so the amp won't be overloaded.
As a side benefit, your deck will run cooler.
GL!

Not sure what a 70-8590 is but I'll ask the crutchfield guys. They recommended the SOEM4. What exactly does it do? I'm guessing I can disconnect it and just wire the 8 speaker harness to each other and do away with the SOEM4 altogether?
Metra 70-8590
Crutchfield are morons, listen to Luke.

Crutchfield gave me a similar looking part but it is #120709195 so I'm guessing 70-9195? It is currently connected to the output of the PAC SOEM4. Is it a good idea to connect this part directly to the harness going into the back of the headunit?
Yeah, that is a crutchfield number for a Metra part.
Metra is the biggest manufacturer of interface harnesses.
If you are not feeling brave enough to use my method, do this: with the deck out, reach behind the OBC and pop it out. Then, remove the 4 screws around the corners of the bracketry behind the bezel. Gently tug on the whole "cage" so you can tuck the stock harness behind it in such a way as to put the harness behind the OBC and have just the aftermarket decks harness poke out from behind the cage.
Kinda hard to explain, but envision that big stupid plug with the wire harness plugged in and that SOEM4 all shoved under the deck, behind the OBC.
However, I can do it and I have size 15 fingers. If I can get my sausages in there, so can you.

oh hey, a PS: put the screws back in, make sure the wiring isn't being crushed, don't be dumb, etc.
How about using one of these:

I presume the idea is to plug the RCA jacks into the Pre-Amp outs of Aftermarket HU (KDC-X897).
Does this sound right and/or seem reasonable?

Sorry to revive an old dead thread. It just seemed the most relevant.
