Knee transplant on the Red Dragon

Did a full rear end rebuild today with a ton of help from Adam. Crap I dont want to have to do that again .
Pulled everything out of the rear, replaced all bushings. Got another subframe with fresh OEM bushings, cleaned that up and painted it.
Also finally fixed front diff bolt that snapped off at last November MIR drag rental. snapped the bastard in half when the Radowski diff brace also snapped. Same launch brok both engine mounts, tranny mounts, snapped driveshaft in half, ripped the rear diff bushings....basically disconnected the drivetrain from the chassis.
Had to drill out the diff to make it all work again. pain in the ass.
    here are the photos.
I washed it yesterday, first time since last November lol.

New parts ready to go in.....Turner lower control arms w sphericals

freaking awesome bmw tool set, thanks Rich! so very cool to use these.

Adams new e90 M3 DCT......awesome car. big things to come with this. He held the record in the 1/4 for a e39 M5 for quite some time. I have no doubt this will be on the same caliber.

    Interior

    Old rear end

    Its out!

    broken diff bolt

    diff brace

    die broken bolt!

    I win

the bushing/ball joint tool set made very quick work of the bushings and Rtabs....then we improvised for the diff bushings lol

    Going back in

Mickey Thompson spray from drag racing

    All done!

rear end feels fantastic! every single bushing and ball joint was SHOT.......terrible. One of the subframe bushings ripped in half pulling the old subframe out.
    now for an alignment!

yup HUGE difference on the drive home. I went back to all fresh OEM rubber bushings and it feels great. I've had a snapped diff bolt since last November, therefore the car has seen very limited use.

Now all 4 corners are crazy out of alignement since this job plus new Ground Control camber plates up front. Feels skittish as hell.

Nice work! You don't expect any issues with the OEM stuff back there when you do some more drag racing with the extra power? Just curious..as I don't know.

if I continue to drag race the car, yes, I would expect to have issues with just about anything I put back there. This chassis/suspension is simply not designed for it.

In the future if I hit the drag strip (I likely will next month ) it will be with street tires so much less stress on everything.

I find the drag strip the best place to test the car and its current mods/tuning. Where else can I go WOT in 3rd and 4th gear? On the highway that gets real fast/illegal/dangerous real fast.......real fast.

    I gotcha.

And yeah..agreed..doing WOT pulls on the street, just to see how it is running/tuning in 3rd/4th is all over the above.

done by the PO thankfully, they look perfect as do the subframe areas. I found that out when I bought AKG bushings to put in a year ago. Pulled the old bushings out to find they were already AKG's lol.....so now i've thrown 2 perfectly good sets of AKG rtabs in the trash.

The subframe itself has swaybar reinforcements installed.
