Hi,
Been looking to increase my idle speed (M62TU 7.2) (long story, but it's for testing purposes), I've searched high and low, but can't seem to find a detailed step-by-step. I've seen a TSB that indicates that idle can be reprogrammed in DIS (and even shows some steps, but I can't seem to find the menu locations in DIS for "idle speed adjustment"). I have a fully functional DIS, INPA and even PROGMAN v32.0 solution.
Wondering if anyone can lend a hand on this?
Moderators: Feel free to move this thread if it belongs in a different section, thanks!
TIA!
EDIT: Here's what the TSB says (problem is getting to the bolded section, in the first place):

Product Engineering
MODEL:
E38 - 74OiLA with M62 engine produced as of 5197
E39 - 540iAi with M62 engine produced as of 5/97
Situation:Customer complains that seems to stumble and the engine idle speed appears to be too low especially with the A/C off and when:
- is turned fully to the right or left
- Reverse gear is selected with automatic
Cause:
Increased load requirement from steering/transmission
Correction:
In case of a customer complaint, the engine speed can be adjusted ±100 RPM by utilizing service function within DME diagnosis.
Procedure:
In order to increase the idle speed the following steps must be followed:
- No Faults stored in DME Fault Memory
- Engine must be at normal operating Temperature (at least 85°C)
- All electrical consumers must be switched oft
- Adaptation values should be cleared
Once the list conditions are met the idle speed can be increased by:
1. Select Digital Engine Management (displaying the DME diagnosis ID screen)
2. Select =>
3. Select "3 Service functions" then =>
4. Select "20 Idle speed adjustment" then =>
5. Current idle speed adjustments are displayed
6. Select =>
7. Menu of idle speed adjustment options is displayed.
8. Select an adjustment option from the menu and select =>
9. DIS will prompt you to perform certain operations, such as start engine.
10. After selecting => a screen displaying current engine speed and temperature will be displayed. At this point the engine speed can be increased or decreased in steps of 10 RPM. The total adjustment window is ±100 RPM.
11.Once the desired engine speed is obtained the new value must be stored. Once the new value is stored select the back arrow and the new idle speed adjustment setting will be displayed.

Yeah, I must be having a bad day, but I can't seem to find the sub menu (or even how to get there) mentioned in step 1 in order to get started.
Figured it out, thank to this post:

Seems like the TSB was missing a couple of steps--this post helped clear up the steps needed to get to Step 1 of the TSB and the other steps need to get to the "idle speed adjustment" section.

I've only managed to raise and lower it temporary using the test module. It's not possible to raise it permanently using GT1. Idle Speed adjustment just doesn't exist under Service Functions.

[E39 540i] - with S/C ESS kit (plus some upgrades)
[E34 540iA] - Gone
I'm getting really tired of my high idle. There don't appear to be any vacuum leaks, and 750rpm idle plays havoc on braking. I don't want to hijack the thread, but is there anything more than going to a dealer and saying, "reprogram my idle please" and giving them $20?

Throttle plate is adjusted, cables are fine, IAC is spotless. When I unplug the IAC connector it goes down to 600rpm, but of course if I put it in gear or give it gas and let go, it will stall out. (sorry don't want to hijack like I said, I've already read everything I can and nothing seems to lower the idle, it seems to be hard programmed in there to BE 750)

Hooked up Dis 5.2 to my car for the first time today and as has been pointed out by previous posters, there is no idle speed adjustment menu.
Has anyone had success reprogramming their idle speed and how did you do it?
I had thought I had seen it also...but I disdain DIS pretty much, so I hardly use it and cant remember.

It's a better program. It's designed to walk you through diagnostics and coding.
So even if you haven't done something before, it's hard to screw things up.
I re synced the eml and dme's on a 750 using dis 4.4. At no point was there any worry about messing things up. It tells you what certain symptoms imply for problems and runs diagnostic test plans.
It's a very powerful tool to have and get familiar with.

Increase idle command on a M62tu with ME7.2 is possible under DIS expert menu.
