Thumbs up My DFW storm pics

Not sure if any of you guys know, but I live in the DFW area in Texas most of the year (Houston others). This time of year is usually quite treacherous for storms for some reason. Last week we had some crazy hail and tornadoes drop down...

These pics are just beside me and some on the streets right after the tornado passed. I have not been this close to a tornado ever. I had to deal with Hurricane Ike and Katrina evac a while back, what a PITA.

    I make E23 parts.

Saw a vid from a hail storm this past week that decimated a pontiac.

Wow. Glad it wasn't any worse. My parent's house took over $40,000 in tornado damage a few years ago, and they had far less damage than any of their neighbors.

I didn't realize/remember you were in DFW! I was just there this weekend with the E23. 1376 miles in 2.5 days and it held up admirably. A few tuning changes were needed with the MS and the clutch hydraulics are getting pretty bad, but otherwise no meaningful mechanical issues.

I think I have seen you on Mye28. Good to see more E23s floating around that are not stock. I jumped on that TCD sale for the T4 flanged manifold in the event I choose to replace the K27 stuff on my black 745i

Recently I replaced the hydraulics on my 735i, the master was OE from 05/85 Totally difference experience. I have posted here my efforts to make that Getrag box shift well... the aluminum front shift bushings made a HUGE difference (there is a thread here). I also replaced the OE rubber pressure hose with an SS hose, I think I made a thread about that one too. Also quality syn oil in that box makes a world of difference.

Mark P of '9Grenzen Motorsports' (9Grenzen AT gmail.com) helped the E23 guys have a SS hose too.

I think I have an M30 turbo MS file if you want it. It could help.

Yeah, I have the new master and slave in boxes, just haven't had time to replace them. I had them with me on the trip just in case. I'll hit up Mark about the SS hose, seems like a good idea.

My tune is getting better bit by bit, just haven't taken the time to really dial it in after the new wastegate and losing the intercooler.

Any more interesting info on that Cartech kit? How much boost has it been running?

The SS line by mark is on ebay for 30 bux. Worth every penny. I took Eric's advice with the solid mounts up front on the shifter plate too. It feels great. I almost went solid in the rear too but changed my mind because I figured there needed to be a little flex somewhere.

I'm running a 1 bar spring in the new TiAL 38mm wastegate, on my boost gauge it shows about 15-16psi max. The original (turbonetics, I believe) wastegate was shot, and the FMU originally supplied with the Cartech kit was nowhere near enough to deal with more than 6-7 psi of boost. The MS setup gives much more capability, obviously. The original kit was really limited by the AFM and the very restrictive exhaust, and the intercooler was too small to do much of anything. Once I freed up the exhaust the dominoes fell quickly and I had to do other upgrades to keep the boost under control. The car saw more than one 20psi spike...it's a wonder that the HG didn't pop.

It is laggy but not obnoxiously so. With the AFM removed and a free-flowing 3" exhaust, boost comes up quickly after 2500rpm or so and can be enough to break the tires free when the turbo spools in second gear.

With no intercooler and fairly conservative fuel and ignition settings in the MS setup, it's quick but not overwhelming. With more timing it feels like the car loses 1000 pounds and it gets much more entertaining, but it detonates so I've had to pull it back. Either way, it makes for a fun car that is MUCH quicker than normal people expect an old beige BMW to be. I was enjoying my time on the interstates and highways in DFW...if I need to make a move in traffic, once the boost is up there's not much very many people can do about it.

WOW! We get some wild thunder and lightning storms, hail and the occasional cyclone but not those tornadoes you get there. Don't know if I would like to "witness" one either =/
