Hey im wondering if there is any technical crap you have to go through with RTA with an engine swap
Most of all am i allowed to:
I am a red P plater and own a 92 model 318i e36 sedan.. I love the car but it is pretty slow so.
Can i put a 325i or 328i engine from an e36 straight in?
Plan on buying a write off aswell so hopefully thats not illegal.. To use the engine
Anyone that can help?

I hate to say the same thing as everyone else, because I wanted to kill people when they told me this repeatedly, but you're much better off buying a car with an M5X from factory.

Yeah no problems it can be done, but you need to make sure and be sure before you start how big this conversion is, it goes straight in except a few minor adjustment, but the tricky part is the ECU + wiring harness for the new engine + immobiliser. You can buy a stat rideoff no issue make sure the engine and box is all running ok before you buy it and make sure its not hit from the front too hard... RTA only requires the auction receipts or wrecking yard receipts from where you got the new engine + licensed mechanical workshop fitting receipts unless you are doing it yourself and finally a blue slip is required.
One big headache.. but if your in no rush and want to do it slowly then this is perfect!

So the the 318 gearbox and diff will need replacing to suit the engine??
Well it depends if your car is currently an auto then changing to manual means different running gear if you are going to do auto to auto just change the diff you dont have to but 318i diff ratio is shorter than 328i from man to man same 5spd box upgrade diff. A good trick to know with diffs is if you put an automatic diff on a manual you will generally find the car revs out faster and harder but tops out earlier.

I’ve got a e36 325i engine and gearbox with wiring loom. Done 220000 km and have receipts of work that was done to it. such as general servicing, rebuilt alternator, replaced leaking gearbox seals, replaced worn gearbox mount, replaced artic disk, new selection clips. and receipt of been professionally removed. all up spent about $2600 on it in the year i had it.
If you were looking for an engine and gearbox
