PM'ed regarding a price on a th400 adapter set up
RK tunes
For a long time, I've been fighting the temptation to go into business and build race parts, especially my custom transmissions and valve bodies. I'm not in business and am not set up to produce these. The adapter I built is a hand made one-of.
I'll be happy to help you if you want to build your own.
There are a couple of guys in the drag forum who have access to a machinist with a CNCd version that might be adapted for the th400.

Carl if you change your mind on the powerglide I have a custom SFI JW bell that will work with your adapter plate. It has the SBC bolt pattern on the engine side and C4 Ford bolt pattern on the trans side. I can give you a nice package deal for the whole shebang
As for my car we are off to a good start first time out this year we layed down a 9.7x @140 on a conservative tune. I have since made some changes and can't wait to go back to chase that 8.99999 wish me luck we will be racing IFO May 20th in New Hampshire

One day I will join you guys in the all out drag car build. Like Mike R, I have to see what I can lay down in street trim. I'm trying to get a spare second, steal Mike, and come see this thing in person! (Altho we dont need any more ideas )
Street cars do rock. It's always a painful choice, deciding between a street car and a track car. I started off with street cars. As a matter of fact, the car in the first picture in this thread was my favorite one. I would drive it to work, then right to the track, win money (even a Wally), then pick up some cars on the way home. It was fun. But with power levels going up, the temptation to street race was bound to get me into trouble, so I decided to build track cars. My current street car is a low powered autocross E30 daily driver with suspension work in place of power. I've actually discovered that cars can turn, wow....., who would have guessed. I'll probably build a turbo street car again, once this drag project is done.
Every time I get a ride in one of Mike R's customers cars, I get that street car temptation again. I won't ride in his car because I know that will totally throw me off the track car wagon.
What I'm saying is... we go through phases. It's all good. Stay safe.

That depends on if the guy who bought my Neon wants to also buy the AEM Universal that's already wired in it. I have experience with AEMs, but am tempted to either get a newer AEM version with USB connection or maybe one that Mike R suggests. I've always tuned my own stuff, but since Mike has the experience in BMWs, I may tap him to tune this one. So the short answer is.... haven't decided yet.

Yeah I remember talking to you when you brought the Neon by to strp it down on the mustang dyno but never ended up putting it on the dyno.
I remember talking to you for a while about that car, crazzy you sold it and finally went BMW. Your doing the right thing out of the gate, I'm sure this will just get better and better!
Torque converter is ready. The picture shows 3 torque converters.
Left one is stock from a 525 M50 9.5 inch.
Middle one is my BMW/GM 8 inch Opel that fits directly to the S/M50 on the front cover side and to a Turbo 350 or Turbo Powerglide on the other side.
The right one is a typical 10 inch powerglide.
Here are my converter on the left and typical powerglide on right.
Mine has a smaller pilot that fits directly into the crank, no adapter needed, uses stock crank bolts. Typical powerglide has a oversized pilot that won't fit the crank. Typical powerglide also had enlarged mounting ring, so it interferes with the starter and forces the whole converter to be mounted further away from the engine.
Here is how it fits direct to flexpalte, starter ring and crank.
Another comparison. The 8 inch is also alot lighter than the typical powerglide because of the overall diameter and not having to swing that huge mounting plate.
The converter was built to handle over 1000hp. It has a mechanical diode instead of a sprag or spragless. Mechanical diodes provide the benefits of a sprag, but are bullet proof. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the front cover is the orignal BMW cover. The positive fin angle internally will provide high efficiency (less RPMs lost at the top of the track) and the smaller size and machined Opel stator will hopefully provide the high stall I'm looking for. If a higher stall is needed, a converter can be built down to 6". Bigger converters are needed when you get into the 2000 horespower range but they sacrifice stall RPM. You can change the fin angle on the converter to get higher stall, but you sacrifice efficiency. If you build the converter too small, you'll get the high stall but may overpower the converter. It's a balancing act.
Also, the rear brakes came in.
