make sure to use nice quality stainless hose clamps for those power steering hoses.... the factory ones come loose after a few years. also, take off the o-ring from the cap and measure the size and order a replacement o-ring made of Viton. whatever ZF or BMW uses is junk and goes into compression set failure in about 12 months. Viton o-rings will last much longer... I replace this on every car people bring to me and I rarely see dirty P/S reservoirs again. the o-rings I get from amazon.
I use ABA product for hose clamps , no complains , factory are long time gone
Good info about Viton o-rings , when y have time please drop me a link , thank y Sir

Almost every indy repair facility or imports parts place uses/sells ABA, Norma, or Zebra clamps.

yeah, i know... i haven't found them sold individually from a reputable place. although, that's only $11 or so, you can use 1, and sell the others to your BMW buddies... I'm sure everyone's P/S cap is leaking anyway... LOL

changed transmission oil/filter/gasket on 84k miles
basic procedure and was discussed many time
I used 6.5 quarts of Valvoline Full Synthetic oil

price is good and approved by BMW ( LT 71141 )

There are so many bolts which hold transmission pan so when change filter/gasket get help from some portable drill/driver , it will be 10 times faster

I am happy with a shifting now , smooth like a butter
Will need to refill it one more time after 1000 miles
    Cheers

Fun facts: When I did my 5HP19 overhaul I went with the original transmission fluid which I got it from the dealer. They charge you half a litre. If I remember correctly, I needed about 12-13 litres of the fluid and ended up paying a total of $360-380. Meh ... cheap isn't it!

Love the black trim interior over the normal wood. For DSP, I highly recommend the M Audio subwoofer upgrade. The subs are pricy, but maybe you can find some used ones, or blown ones that can be inexpensively reconned.
2001 540 M-Sport (cdn), ST X (KW) coilovers, H&R 15mm spacers, Eibach anti roll bars (28mm/18mm), Beastpower rear antiroll bar brackets, M5 rear chassis reinforcements (traction rods), Strong Strut front upper strut bar, Dinan Stage 1 software, factory M-Audio subs, Bavsound speaker upgrade, Bluebus bluetooth integration, Stop Tech SS brake lines, ATE coated brake rotors, ATE ceramic brake pads.

Can you explain how you refreshed your tranny oil?
Drain and fill? Do you need to top it off with the car running?
You get under the car and top off the fill hole with the car running in neutral or park?

there are many threads how to change transmission oil on E39
many said the correct way is to Drain and fill + replace transmission filter for the first time
then after 1000 miles just Drain and fill again , this way you replace up to 90% of old oil
In any case final fill is on a running engine , neutral or park is not that matter as you need to go through all gears anywhere
but you better park the car when you under it no ?

these pedals took good 3-4H of my time to do it right with all these Chinese hardware
BTW MB uses aluminium pedals from factory , there are many places where BMW wants to cut costs

ok after 3k miles i have some details about my oil consuming
oil changed - 84500k miles , as of now 87500k miles
Basically it burns 0.5Q every 3000 miles now ... taking in consideration that i mostly have short city trips its not bad at all
She also see 100+ MPH very often which also affects oil consuming as well

This guy helps with yellow sludge

So i basically need to clean it once in a while ,- usually every 1000k miles , take me 10 min to do it
My oil cap is always cleeeean, photo today

this is what we catch comrades

cleaned and ready to go another happy 1k
