3 months into the project and time for an endorsement

Most every BMW enthusiast knows of Rogue Enginerring for thier quaity and race proven parts...but this completely custom designed and fitted 100% stainless t304 dual 3" mz3 exhaust is a perfect example of the quality of their work.

My first experience with Rogue was about 6 years ago when they took a box of parts from Eurosport without directions and did a better than factory install of the twinscrew into only one of 2 MZ3 coupes at the time. Never had to go back and have the fix anything related tot he install of that job.

When it came to my current job- I turned to them for the detail work- the wiring harness is factory installed using all the original locations. The brake lines are clipped tight to the body and clean and the exhaust as you can see is first rate.

    Check these guys at http://www.rogueengineering.com/

    On to the next......

Can I feed a signal to my low oil pressure waring light in the dash via the GM oil pressure sending unit?

Right now I was planning on connecting that via the OE BMW idiot sending unit mounted to the oil level plug in the ls oil pan.

But my plan is to connect the GM oil temp / oil level sensor for the OBD port...and since the GM oil pressure sending unit in the back of the block has an idiot light...I thought I should use it instead. This will free up a sender for me.

some more pics of the brake lines....

I'm a little confused with what exactly you are trying to do.

If you are trying to use gm sensor behind intake to feed the oil pressure light in the dash, then it will not work as it is oil pressure sending unit that reads actual pressure and cluster needs oil pressure switch.

For the sensor in the oil pan, you can use it for oil temp or some how adopt oil level, but definately not oil pressure. Pressure can be read from the little housing above oil filter.

2 pre and 2 post o2 sensors..this car is going to be registered and by the grace of the almighty pass inpection. Then the rears will be plugged off. I m banking on a physical inspection via exception inspection.

Leo- what am i trying to do? Exactly the question I keep asking myself.

I am running all electrical gauges for the cockpit and have that all sorted. Then i saw your post about the PLX type gauges via OBD II and realized that I dont have oil temo and oil pressure going to my PCM.

So I though I could use the oil level gauge plug for oil temp and the oe oil pressure sender for the oil pressure. Since that GM OE oil pressure sender is a 3 wire...I assumed it was an idiot light and I could use it to BMW oil pressure warning light.

Does that make sense? Yes- overkill...but once this is running I know I wil add an AIM XL into the car.

"If you are trying to use gm sensor behind intake to feed the oil pressure light in the dash, then it will not work as it is oil pressure sending unit that reads actual pressure and cluster needs oil pressure switch. " Ahhh....did not realize one was a switch and one was a sendor....( dont know difference - but I can see there must be one)

"For the sensor in the oil pan, you can use it for oil temp or some how adopt oil level, but definately not oil pressure. Pressure can be read from the little housing above oil filter." I can always reverse the two - I thought everyone was using the adapter into oil pan for oil pressure switch.. (If it was a good warning light...I would just omit it.....but it saved me at the glen once when the oil pump retainer nut fell off)

    trying to answer this also.....

Oil pressure switch is just that - an on/off switch. When there is enough pressure, it breaks the circuit, when pressure is low the sensor grounds and you get your light on dash.

You can really use either location for sensor or switch. Typically you want to put a sensor where GM original was - behind intake as it gives you reading furthest away from the pump.

If you are planning on using OBDII data, then I would keep the GM sensor behind manifold and just wire it to PCM (I believe on 05 GTO it goes to PCM BLK 73 way connector, pin 24). I don't think it would be hard to connect those wires.
For the dummy light, just use the housing by the filter.

As to your question posted on LS1Tech - as far as I know there is no oil temp sensor on LS2. Also, the hex sensor is just level that used to report to the dash light on GM car. It does not go through PCM to the best of my knowledge.

I am using this slim line from improved for VDO Oil Pressure / VDO Oil Temperature ( not actual pictured) and then the 1.5 inch radiator hose connector with VDO water temp sendor.

not sure i follow you here...are you saying the plug in the oil can be used for the BMWE cluster idiot light or oil temperature? I was thinking that pressure reading has to be above the oil level...my plan is to put the GM oil temperature sender into the oil level plug and them move the one off idiot sender to a t fitting off the oil cooler adapter or off the back of the black where the GM oil pressure sending unit is. ( could use help finding a t fitting that will accept both the m12 and the m16 ( I think that is size of GM oil pressure).

thats helpful...yes its my plan to do just that as well as add in the oil temp.

how cheezy that they did not come with that. Are you saying there is no oil temp gauge or pin location that I can connect into? I thought I read about GTO ls2 having an oil level and integrated oil temo switch...hmmmm

Hoping to get the plug from CP wire and getting this laced into the PCM.

Looks like the coolant temp sensor will work as an oil temp sensor. This is what the Corvette apparently uses and runs the data into the PCM.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Engi...ht_5602wt_1396

I am making more of this than I should!

Looks like the other temp and level sensor only supplies the dash gauge.

Car leaving Rogue for Hot Rod Hotel where we will remove motor one last time and go through everything and button her up

This after noon 3PM....car in its bay.....

and 2 hours later......motor is out....

Was about to start this weekend...

And realized had no oil filter. Naturally I went and bought Han ls1 f body filter only to find it and any filter I tried did not fit.

Turns out I need gen 5 camaro liter.

Other than that big question around diff flange...would not mate up to drive shaft .....had to shim down the differential by almost 3/8 inch.

    Normal....? Just me?

The drive shaft universal was hitting top of yoke... So if I bolted it up the shaft would not spin. By shimming diff down 3/8th I am able to spin shaft.

Other thing I noticed is that the headers in primary 1 and3 on passenger side are about 1/8th inch from frame. Wonder if I will need to make room.

Should be started by Friday and on the road may 1st

Is the problem you are having with driveshaft is in the place shown on attached? If so, I think you have serious driveline angle issues. Also, unless z3 diff mounting is different from regular e36, I'm having hard time visualizing how diff can be angled down and still have all of the mounting bolts lined up...

For the headers 1/8 of an inch sounds as very little space to me and I think you will be hitting the frame. If you don't have all of the exhaust connected yet, now is the good time to hammer the frame rail a little.

Interesting about the angle. It does not seem very severe. I don't think it's an issue...appears pretty straight shot from trans to diff flange.

As for the exhaust it's all installed. I may have to take headers off on passenger side. The car is straight. I guess I check with vorshlag to check clearance.

All fits good ...but some tight spots.

Do you know if the u-joint is correct type? 1310? That flange should have significant amount of movement before getting stuck on itself. Here is the example from our build

So this continues to be a problem.......

Everything is working in the wiring, but no fuel pump.....currently I have a gray wire from the gm harness relay going to pin 13 on x20.......what am I missing

From X20 the wires go through fuse box to fuel pump.

Are there any sources online to find wiring diagrams? I have been trying to find something online for awhile and can't find anything good. Something I could download in a pdf would be great. I would be needing it for a e46.

    Erik,

First you need to check the feed from PCM (on 05 GTO it is PCM pin 45) and make sure you have 12v coming to your relays (~2 seconds after you turned the key on or constant while cranking).

If the 12v is there, check to see if it coming to your x20 pin 13. If it is not there, then something is wrong in the area between PCM and x20, the relay connections. You will need to test and debug there. Make sure relay has constant 12v coming, has ground and the above mentioned trigger wire from PCM connects to that relay. The problem is confined in this area and should not be too difficult to identify. Just trace the wires in that short span.

If, however, you have 12v coming to x20 pin 13, then the problem is down the road between the x20 and the fuel pump. Now you need to perform test right at the fuel pump to see if you get both 12v and ground at the pump connector and trace the wiring from there...

In any case, if you have your PCM supplying 12v on that fuel pump trigger wire, then it's only a technical matter of time before you will find where you are losing it...

    Here's the deal

I have 12v at the pin #13 and if I put a ground /test light to the fuse #30 in the BMW fuse box the pump comes on...but if I don't ground the fuse nothing.

Then relay and ls2 harness fuel pump wire has power....

So I must have an issue at the fuel pump from the BMW wires.

Almost sounds like the fuel pump is working backwards,,,no fuel in fuel rail,,,,

Thinking there is a ground issue or reverse wiring at pump......hmmmmm

I am wondering if the fuel pump signal wire will run through the EWS box. Withheld box removed, I had to jump the ignition line in order to supply cranking power to starter. Perhaps I need to o same for fuel pump?

I also recall reading that the PCM signals are opposite BMW in terms of power/ ground

Maybe I said that wrong...when I check for current with a pin light, the BMW fuses showed power

Tomorrow we will run a line directly from relay to fuel pump and circumvent the x20....and make sure fuel pump. Is grounded. If all is good then I will run wire directly

Car is ready to bottom up.

Headers are close due to very think gasket..using a 1/4 inch thick gasket. Maybe an 1/16 thick will give room I need to clear frame.

Holly batman! I didn't even know they made 1/4" gasket for exhaust. I'm curious to see if you are now able to switch to 1/16" and still match up to therest of the ehxaust...

    It's alive....

Started up today. Ran the fuel line post relay directl to pump and it fired right up.

Ran clutch line n d bled today and ran the coolant lines.

    Buttoning up the pati net.

Issues....grease fitting on vorshag steering shaft is hitting th e vorshag headers.."hmmmm.. Can shaf be in upside down?

Headers hit the frams....need to make some room.

Clutch pedal is softer than I am use to....may need to put back spring in clutch pedal.

Transmission is dry...but not falling into gear....only 4 th?.?

Only ran it for 2 5 second runs....

I need to put a set screw in the place of the grease fitting. Its hitting the header tube.

I have to install a spring on the clutch pedal. It is softer than I am use to?

The cool thing is the x brace will fit under the motor with little modification
