Opinions on what would cause this to one of my tires, picture included

Tire is a 255/40/17 Victoracer v700. It was on the rear, with a few weekends of use. It looks this way only about half way around.

Looks like cord separation to me, need to see if they will take it back.

Defective tire. I had that exact same failure happen to a Pirelli P4000e passenger car tire on my wife's Jag. It was on the inner side of the tread. Guy at the tire shop called it cord separation.

Tire rolled kind of like a football.

    I'd try a warranty claim.

Has happened to a few of toyo ra-1s/r888s, including a set of my own. I was told it was caused by running them on improper (too high) pressures for an extended period. Now I'm a pressure Nazi for non-race weekends as well now.

This! In the early part of the century (2001-2003), many Kumho V700s suffered the same fate. If you shaved them from the start, they would not do it, but full tread tires, especially on the road course (but autocross too) would almost always end up looking like this.

It was a design flaw in the construction of the tire. This was part of the reason for the introduction of the totally redesigned V710.

^^ Take a look at the shape of the tire; it has developed what looks like a bulge, about half way around the tire. Perhaps this picture will help:

    -------------------

Tire pressures (rear) were 32-33 cold and about 35-36 hot after a cool down lap and drive back to the parking/paddock area.

    -------------------

Will the V710 last 8-10 track days? Any other R comp in this category I should look at?

    tire bulge..

ahh...yes I did notice that, but not how bad it was.

To tell u the truth I can see that but to a lesser degree on my RA1's....I would say Ive seen it a few times on different tires...but all RA1's.... yet i really love the tire and have run them for years. Have you considered RA1's?.....they wear like iron.
