I hope it's ok to post here. I thought I posted my 510 build here a while back. If not, please move to appropriate section. Thanks in advance.
My dad and I have been restoring this car for the last 3.5 years. He has one of every year of the 240z. 1970, 71, 72 & 73. The 70 and 72 cars were already restored although we did lots of work to them after the fact. The 73 car is all original. Original, paint, interior etc with 40k original miles. The 71 car has been totally restored.
I found the car 17 years ago. I was 15 and riding my gokart through my friends neighborhood. I recognized the shape even though it was under cover as my dad has been a Z/Datsun nut since 71. We went over there and the guy pulled the cover back and it was in great shape. Un-driven since 79. Still has the inspection sticker on the windshield.
My dad tried to buy it from the guy but he wouldn't sell. 6 months- year later same thing. This continued for the next 12-13 years Finally the guy caved and sold my dad the car. It looked like an easy resto but the car was hit in the front and rear back in 75 and the repairs were poor.
We stripped the car, pulled the suspension and drivetrain, bead blasted everything, painted it, cleaned and painted the underside of the car, replaced all the hoses etc and put it all back together.
We took the car to a master body/painter. A true crafstman who does classic Alpha's, Porsches etc. While he worked on the car, we sourced parts. The car needed a new front driver clip and rear quarter. Aftermarket wasn't an option and you cant buy new.
We ended up finding a Z in VA beach with a good front end and literally cut the front clip off and then in half. I thought the guy was going to $hit.
Over the next year or so I searched and searched and finally found my dad a rust free rear quarter in AZ. The body guy worked on the car for the next few years. He took it down to metal, replaced the front clip, rear quarter, dog legs etc. My dad bought a new hood and fenders from Nissan (still have them!!!) And we found some original door panels still in the packages!. All new rubber etc. All OEM Nissan. Zero aftermarket parts were used in the entire car. All the bolts, nuts and brackets etc were re cad plated.
It's a thing of beauty.
And finally the good stuff in high res

Very sick transformation. I love the attention to detail.
Thanks everyone!! This car would probably sell for $35k+ if it were to be listed on eBay etc. His other ones would go for around $20-25k.

so fcuking awesome
Nice. So awesome. Have you guys done of the amazing Arizona z car suspension billet jewelry? The stuff just makes me want to buy a s30 just to install the pieces. Fwiw, I'd have to have 5 restored 510's in the garage before i had one z. They just feel like boats when compared to the dime. I imagine though that a z car would feel great with 600 wheel, much better than in a 510. Just amazing work. I'd call it honorable!

Wow that is a stunning transformation! Love the fact that only OEM parts were used. Way to restore those the proper way!

Amazing work!
I love old Datsuns.
My dad bought several 240Zs new in the 70s.
I wish he would have held on to one.
There was a restored 240Z at ImportAlliance this past weekend and it was getting everyone's attention.
