    Summer Continental ExtremeContact DW tires

Some people asked to review Summer Continental ExtremeContact DW so here we are ...
I didn't need the DWS ( all season ) as i have another winter set I wanted something more quiet and comfortable for my daily commute.
The DW looked like a good pick up as it marketed itself and also not so expensive .
I have agreed with some of the other reviewers - the sidewalls are a bit softer
than the more performance oriented tires and I definitely lose some steering preciseness

    now about good things
I went to smoky mountains this weekend and did ~1000k miles on these tires
The first thing which i want to mention is a gas consuming . I never hit 470 miles per tank ...
the average speed was as usual 75-90 and i got 30 miles message left on 470 miles .. mmm not bad even for I6 ,
these tires definitely help to keep good gas consuming
The car is a different animal on the highway . Its much, much quieter than any another tires which i used before ( even than Michelin )
The car tracks straight down the highway and I don't feel any instability from the soft sidewalls ... and ya i kept 35 PSI all around

If you value performance over money, I'd recommend the Michelin PS2s over these tires.
If you value money over performance but still want a quiet comfortable ride with long tread life
and don't want a hockey puck to get a long tread life, I'd definitely recommend these.

    cheers
    I

    Igor,

Beautiful review! Succinct and to the point. Did you try upping the pressure to, say, 38psi?

Also, what size are you using?

    Thank you!

    Same exact observation as champaign!!!
Overall great tires for the money.

    Good write-up!

I would also consider the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires as well!
The Michelin all-seasons truly blow away my summer Bridgestone Re-760's.
    It's amazing!
The Michelins have better handling, braking, traction, and disperse rain/water better too.

I know another good summer tire would be the Good Year Asymmetrics.

Looking for an E39 belly pan , passenger front inner fender liner …

Nice review. I'm looking at the DWS once my stock-size RE960s wear out.(probably next year) Have driven the Michelin Sport Plus A/S on a different car and was amazed at the quietness and handling but comparing the weight, I'll probably save more gas and get more comfort with the DWS.

    thanks buddy
many reviews ( and also my local BMW guru ) said to keep 35 PSI around for I6
I found this magic number is the best for me

Tires are 235/40R18 as per tire rack recommendation

I have not driven on the DWS tires, so I really don't know how they compare to the Michelins.
I know my Michelins are very comfortable and absorb imperfections well.
Which is very important when on coil-overs IMO.

Tomorrow will be two weeks since I installed DWSs on my car. You're going to enjoy them.

I've had the DWSs on for a few days. Same observations here. Quiet and smooth. Tracks straight and handles well in the corners. Very pleased so far.

I have the DSW's on my 540 and they are great tires, Driving from my house to Orlando Fl with out any issues. Even in the hot FL sun they handled great, Rain was not a issue at all as well. The best tires I have ever owned on any car so far. I am getting another set of Conti's for my Z3 come spring time but debating between the DSW or the DW (the car is not going to be used in the winter months).

I recently got DWS's as well for my 120 mile per day commute. I like them a lot as far as being quite and smooth, would definitely consider them again.

    Bump.
    I need tires badly.
Considering the DW summer tires, since some local BMW guys recommended them.
I am scared of the horror stories about the soft sidewalls with the DW's.

I have Bridgestone Re-760's, 245-40-18's all around, which are an XL tire with stout sidewalls.

My car is lowered and rides rough, so I am worried the soft sidewalls on the DW's will be accentuated when driving.

I am also considering the Michelin Pilot Super Sports ($182 per tire) (24 lbs).
Continental DW summer tires are ~$152 per tire (22 lbs).

I still really like the Bridgestone Re-760's, but they lack a bit in the rain, and are a heavy tire at 29 lbs.

I would really love the performance of the PSS, but still ride well for daily driving, since my car is a daily driver.

    Thoughts?

I'm on Conti dee-dubs right now. A little lumpy when cold but that's the only bad thing. Great tire.

I went through this just recently. I went PSS.....I considered the Conti's, Bridgestone's, and for the heck of it some cheap Hankook Ventus V3's. For the price I received, I went PSS - 275's in the rear and 245's in front.

I have Conti DW on my touring. Purchased new spring 2015. The sidewall is fine for everyday and spirited driving. I think the sidewall thing is a little overblown plus everyone thinks their Nikki Lauda. They have 10-15k on them and very little wear so pretty happy with that.
I live in Michigan and they can be a little thumpy on cold mornings. I would buy again. Conti or Michelin can't go wrong.

The price difference was negligible to me - I was out the door, mounted, balanced, tax, + road hazard for what Jason quoted as likely the price of fronts x4 + I got a rebate on top of that. Really wasn't much of a decision after that....

The cost is not really an issue, since I am only buying 2 tires.
There is not much cost difference between $152 a tire, and $182 a tire.
The concern for me is ride, performance, and longevity of the tires.
I guess I am looking for the best of both worlds in a tire.
    Thanks,
    Jason

+1 I had the same issue. And with a short commute, it got annoying, so I switched to PSS's.

Not as much wet traction but at the edge, the PSS don't squeal... unlike the conti's that sounded like a dying animal XD. Still a very good tire overall though.

What size tire do you have?
Is there a big difference in how both tires corner when pushing the car hard?
Is there a difference on how the tires ride in town?
    Thanks,
    Jason

cornering is much more composed with the PSS. The conti's would squeal like crazy at high temps with what I do in canyons, while the PSS were silent.
around town i'd say comparable. Nothing negative, but nothing really stood out.

agreed PSS's are really really quiet when pushed. like a race tire, they virtually never squeal when you're sliding... great tire.

still will probably continue to daily DW's on the Touring for financial reasons (and I'm ready for 2 more in the rear now...) but the PSS are excellent...
