Do you have one? DBW?
Look up my thread under the title "ASC Indicator light on/Solution Found" dated 10 16 2009, I don't know how to repost it here. it even has pictures of how to stop it from ever getting loose again. hope it helps, if this is what you are looking for. OR ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ACCELERATER CABLE? Which the e39s don't have.

Pre 09/98 540's are cable throttle, post are drive by wire. Not sure about the 528? Maybe wire also if you have DSC.

DBW doesn't mean a mechanical wire connects the throttle body, it means the pedal has a sensor and that sensor feeds an electrical value to the DME. The DME then uses a motor to open/close the throttle body corresponding to the signal it recieves from the pedal.
Go to the first page of the thread and copy/paste the URL from the address bar. When you post the forum software will automagically turn it into a link. It you want to get really trick you can use tags.

As often is the case, there are several flavors of DBW. '00 M52TU, and I suspect '99 is the same, is a hybrid. It uses a cable to actuate a potentiometer on the throttle body and then a motor opens throttle.
