What type of oil does the 2007 328i E90 use?

I read the owners manual and all it tells me is to use a BMW approved oil. Thanks a lot. I want to change the oil and filter in between dcheduled changes and need to know. The amount is 7 quarts. Thanks for any help.

Mobil One OW-40 or BMW Castrol 5w-30. There have been many threads and discussions about this. Next time try the search function please.

Somewhere in the manual there is a list of BMW approved oils and what type of oil one should use in their car.

You can get Mobil 1 0w-40 or Castrol 5w-30 that are NOT the right oils. You want something that says "Euro Blend" on both. There are others, too, but whatever you get, it has to meet BMW Long Life - 01 and ACEA A3, B3,4 standards. Both Euro Blend Mobil 1 and Euro Blend Castrol Syntec indicate somewhere on the label (back of the bottle, most likely) that they meet those specs -- LL-01 & ACEA A3, B34. Oil filters, too -- don't use a Fram or Purolator. Go on-line and look it up. You can get an OEM filter for about 1/3 or 1/4 of the price you'll pay for the same thing at the dealer. And yeah, next time, use and refine your search. There have got to be 25 threads on here about oils and oil filters. We'll all like you better if you ask more interesting questions.

Thats intersting, thanks. I know full well to use Mann or Mahle filters, but I ASSumed that the typical Mobil 1 would be fine. I guess I have to start hunting down this special "euro blend" now. Or I guess I could just change the oil every 5k....

Why not get the oil from the dealer. Here it is around 7$ per quart which is not overly expensive and no need to hunt around or guess or take risks.

Good that your dealer charges only $7, which is about what I pay at the auto parts store. My dealer charges about twice that retail, so I'll buy elsewhere and just make sure I have the right stuff.

wow, didn't realize it was that price. Well, with the BMW club discount, it is likely less. :-)
