I was wondering if anyone on here has rebuilt a starter on a m50 motor.

I have been having trouble with my starter acting up. It sounds like the brushes are starting to fail and possibly the bearings. I would GREATLY appreciate any help on this. I can't really afford a new starter at the moment. I just had to put a drivers door on my car so that was my car money for the month.

I've done it on a m20 before it was just a case of stripping it down and replacing the bushes but I'm sure some one can help you on here or point you in the right direction.

I found a repair kit on realoem.com for $29.99 and was wondering if it was worth buying?

It may not only be the brushes, I took apart a M70 starter, and found a lot of cracked plastic
motor starter with plastic planetary gear broken

it works no again, took the planetary gear from a Mercedes Benz starter which is basically the same except the one toothed wheel, works perfect, now a mix of BMW/Benz Bosch starter

thanks for the links on the starter motor R&R's. I might just have to do that but I need to have parts ready and waiting if and when I rebuild it.

Is there some where I can get a rebuild kit for it?
