Anyone have a write-up? I'm replacing my alternator and saw the belt had a few small cracks. I cut the old belt out and now Im trying to get the new one on. It looks like I need to remove the AC belt to put on the new drive belt? Is that the case or am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

just loosen the tensioner, and place a new belt on.

To answer your question about removing the A/C belt: "It is important to note that if your BMW has air conditioning, you will need to remove this belt first, as it typically blocks the other belt. Another tip - if the belt is worn, simply snip it with some large tin cutters and pull it out of the car, after you have released the tension on it."

From the Bentley manual:
BTW, there is a plastic cover you have to pry/pop off the face of the tensioner.
Jesus! Doesn't anybody buy a Bentley manual? How can you even try to work on a car without a service manual?

I don't mind.
OP the tensioner for the AC is the lower one. Depending on what you remove it might me hard to get a socket wrench in there, and even if its tight, you might not be able to get it out as you loosen it. I used a small socket wrench and it worked well, just something to consider.
I don't think cutting the belts is that big of a deal. Its not necessary, you could keep them so if one ever breaks your not stuck in a rut. But I mean preventative maintenance negates that anyway. GL its not that hard. You just need some basic tools, and the diagram.
Thanks again for the info. I cut the old belt out because it was starting to fray. Is the AC tensioner pulley the same 8mm hex as the drive belt tensioner?

Use an 8MM hex wrench to loosen the A/C belt tensioner. I found the one I have for my 3/8" socket was too long to fit. I used a regular 8MM hex wrench, you know the one that is "L" shaped, and used a wrench over it for leverage. Very simple.

Quit crying about it. I asked for help on a car forum when I had a question about my...car. Forgive me.
