    The euro engine isn't an S52, it's an S50B32.

The S52 is just a modified M52. The US S50 is just a modified M50. They're in a different family of engines from the S50b30 and S50b32 put in the rest of world e36 M3 (and later S54b32 in the e46 M3). Kind of scary that we almost didn't get a US M3 at all. I guess what we got was better than nothing

call it what ever you want. its still a fabulous motor.
Once in a while i see a E46 M3 and i get a little envious and run home to check how much theyre going for. But in the end, my old car and its "fake" M engine puts a smile on my face every time ive driven it through out the 7 years of owning it.

    They're better than a 328is.

No hating on the 328is though. I used to have one and they're very good cars.

The S52 is plenty strong, modified M52 or not. I guess it depends on what you're used to, but it can run with a good amount of newer cars with similar sized engines.

keep in mind that these power statistics were accurate only when the engine was relatively new. Since your engine is 11 years old, you can expect to be down on power.

True, you can get some of the power back with seafoam though, however to get it back to full power you would have to rebuild it, but while your at it might as well do some mods
Luckily I still had a wounded hobo, an unsatisfied erection, high-explosive semen and a score to settle. The night wouldn’t be a total wash.

The US market wasn't ready for the higher cost of admission and necessary maintanence associated with those engines. Plus, 240hp was enough to compete in the market segment they were in.
Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?

don't forget the s52 weighs a bit less than the euro engines or an s54. I wish there was a database of engine power-to-weight ratios somewhere. I understand the new e92 M3 v8 (s...62?) weighs less than the s54?

and don't forget the US S52 can be said in the same sentence as rb26dett and 2jzgte. It is a VERY strong motor and great or FI. It is certainly not FAIL.

US spec still over seen by the motorsport division, lol, still a "real" M engine. But, yes, the euro spec is better

You must be really angry about this since you let us know how you feel 5 years later.
