It's one bolt and you unplug it.

I have an extra good crank position sensor if you need it, I bought a new one from bmw for like $90 something and it ended up not being the problem.

It's one allen screw that holds it on and it's down near the crank on the front of the motor.

It could cause a no-start if it's gone bad. It's right above the big wheel on the front of the engine that all the belts go around.

    Here's a generic picture:

    Have any codes?

Have a technical question, don't send me a PM but post it on the board so others can benefit from it!

    Its a '95 right,
Put the car into Posistion 2 (Not started) stomp on the gas pedal 5 times and watch the the check engine light.

    Count the blinks
it will give you a code,
Like I got 1212, my o2 sensors and I changed them and no more CEL

to replace cps, please follow the instructions of Crewdog in post#16 in attached thread. Please bear in mind my vehicle is a 1998, {hopefully same set up)

also the symptoms described in this thread may help you confirm it is in fact a bad cps causing your problem.

    Good luck

    correct,very easy job

hey yungdub, just tried to p.m. you unsuccessfully.

By cps, I actually meant camshaft position sensor. There is a picture of one further up in this thread. When they go bad, they cause the car to die on start up

    sorry for confusion.good luck.

You may get p.m. priveleges after you make 50 posts (just guessing).

I am a rank amateur yungdub, but are you sure you need to replace the crankshaft position sensor? Does such a thing exist?

Also maybe it is the camshaft position sensor that is causing your vehicle not to start anyway.

Sorry if I am all wrong here.

    edit

I am beginning to think we are talking about the same part, but calling it different names.

I'm looking forward to an expert joining this thread, but I think they are one and the same yungdub.

    edit:

Now I read they are two distinct parts ,(sorry), yet very similar in appearance and in how they connect to the vehicle, and are also located very near each other.

Off to put head in oven.

I meant that I was getting confused and looking forward to a more knowledgeable person than me joining the thread, to clarify things.

I didn't really put my head in the oven. It was a figure of speech to illustrate my frustration/confusion.
